Chapter 91: A dangerous continent

Ed had a long distance to cross. It was even longer than the distance between Avalon and Scale kingdom. The Central Continent was ruled by a government-like structure called the Central government. Most of the ships that travel between the Central Continent and the others ones are owned by them. They are also the ones responsible for the safety of the people.

But that was all on the surface. Although the Central government did do its job, it wasn't interested in safety. Most of the people who control cities don't belong to the Central government. Instead, they are local gang lords or evil sect heads. This was the reason why the first city had a dangerous feeling to it. It was filled with such characters.

This was also one of the reasons why Ed didn't kill those gang members earlier. Although they probably belonged to a weak gang, killing them would be an insult to the stronger ones. It meant someone was challenging the authority that the gangs held in Central Continent. Ed currently wasn't strong enough to challenge a whole continent. But in the future, things will be different.

Ed was now a few kilometers away from the city. He checked his map to make sure no one was near him. "Raikou" Ed called out to Raikou. They would be traveling for a long time, and they needed to save time. So Raikou was the best choice. After a while, they were stopped by a group of monsters. They had the face of a Komainu, a Japanese mythological shrine monster. While their body looked as if it was a gorilla's.

Ed and Raikou didn't have a choice but to kill them. If they tried to outrun them, then they might attract attention. These monsters would follow their prey anywhere. Luckily for them, these monsters were only King Establishment level 5.

Both Ed and Raikou didn't waste any more time. There were about 20 monsters and each of them was going to take half. Ed was using only Shusui. He wanted to try the skill he copied from the staff member before. Ed did the same motions, leaving behind copies of Shusui, totaling 10 in the end. Each one of the swords moved with Ed's mind. 'It's not very efficient' The skill required a lot of concentration when its performance wasn't as good.

Each one of the swords ended killing its target since Ed used enough QI. But he wasn't satisfied with the skill. Ed didn't use QI attacks but instead used Fire magic in order to be fatal. 'I'm not wasting my time with this skill'. Ed thought that the skill was going to be useful in fighting many opponents. But, he found out that it drained the person instead. Using an AOE skill was much better, and faster.

Raikou didn't take his time experimenting like Ed. He activated his lightning clad and used his overwhelming speed to kill the monsters by snapping their necks. Not even a single monster was able to react to Ed and Raikou before getting killed. They died without putting up a decent fight, or even a fight.

Ed ended up getting 60.000 exp from the monsters. Which he considered good, yet not even a single Gacha ticket dropped. Ed was in need of tickets. He had to level up his Mangekyo-Sharingan to Eternal Mangekyo-Sharingan. He knew that using it before upgrading it would degrade his vision until he becomes totally blind. Although it is sealed right now, it was only a matter of time before Ed levels up to Earth Establishment and becomes able to use it.

Ed stored the monsters in his Inventory and continued his journey with Raikou. With Raikou's speed, they reached the next city in less than an hour. There were a lot of cities close to each other on the Central Continent compared to the other continents. Ed decided not to stay in this city, as there was still daylight. He continued traveling with Raikou but noticed that a few red dots left the city. It seemed like they were after him.

'They probably have a scout and noticed me' Ed didn't lose his cool. Instead, he formed a plan in his head. "Raikou speed up a little". There was a forest close to their location which he could use. The ones following Ed were either bandits, part of a gang, or some evil sect members. However, they left almost immediately after noticing Ed. This meant that as soon as they got the information, they left. Ed concluded that they didn't have time to spread the information among other members. The ones following him were probably greedy and wanted to take his stuff for themselves.

Luckily, Ed knew how to handle the situation. The reason why he went to the forest was that it would be easy to hide their bodies. He could also make it seem as if a strong monster killed them.

Soon enough the men caught up with Ed. "You better drop everything you have before you regret it". Ed was already getting tired of hearing this phrase. Instead of answering him, he simply pointed his finger upwards. As soon as the men looked up, they saw two monsters on top of the tree. Gobuta and Goburou were waiting to ambush them. Ed pointing his finger up served to confuse them while they attacked. There were only 8 men present and the strongest one was Earth Establishment level 1.

Gobuta and Goburou made short work of the men who were only King Establishment. Gobuta mutilated the bodies, severing hand, and leg. Goburou being half a vampire actually sucked their blood. It was the first time Ed saw him do this. The leader was scared out of his wits. Making his unable to notice Ed moving next to him. "Next time, choose your opponents wisely. If you reincarnate that is". Before the man could react to Ed, his body was blown away. He was punched by the full power of Ed. Yet, he didn't die.

"That's impressive. But that also helped me. Gobuta". Ed called to Gobuta, who severed the man in the same way as the others. This way the dead bodies seemed similar. Anyone who saw this scene would think that two monsters were fighting to kill the men. But, decided to split the prey.

No one would think that Ed was the perpetrator. Ed didn't use his swords skills, nor did Raikou kill anyone.

Ed didn't take away the spatial rings. He checked them first to see if there was anything he wanted but was only disappointed. Soon, he left the scene without leaving a single trace.

Chapter 92: Entering the tower

Ed finally reached the city where the tower was at. It took him three days to reach it, and this was without stopping. Ed didn't encounter other bandits or monsters on the way who he couldn't outrun. This saved him a lot of time.

The city where the tower exited was called just that. Tower city. The city was like a fort, with a giant circular wall surrounding it. 'Is it supposed to keep things in, or out?' Ed couldn't help but wonder. He quickly made his way to the entrance. Raikou was hiding in his shadow. Many people were lining up to enter. Tower city was different from other cities. It was the headquarters of the Central government. Thus not many people were willing to make a big scene in this city.

"If you will be entering the tower, then please head to the Central office. If you're only visiting, then there is no need." As soon as Ed's turn came, the guard explained to him. Ed already knew this. He got as much information from Leonard who had visited the Tower in the past. Going into the tower requires a signature. Indicating that the one entering would be responsible for himself. No rescue teams or any of the sort would be looking for him if he disappears.

This was a way for other gangs to do their shady job in this city. Entering the tower means a great deal of danger. It would not be an understatement to say that most people who go in don't come back out. This was not only due to monsters in the tower, but also other people inside. Those who choose to kill humans instead of monsters.

Ed made his way to the Central office. It looked like a company, filled with desks and papers. Many people were now lining up to sign. The paper needed to be signed only included the name and signature. No one bothered to check if the information is correct or not since it was only a formality. Ed didn't put his name, instead, he wrote Zero.

After a little, the one who was responsible for Ed gave him a ticker. His name was in it, as well as the government's signature. This was to prove that he had indeed gone through the procedures necessary to enter the tower.

Ed left the office and toured a little. He summoned Suika since she was in her card form while they were traveling. Ed went around the shops buying some necessities. He already had everything he needed, but it was better to be safe rather than sorry. While shopping, he noticed that most people didn't talk much, making the streets eerily quiet. Only footsteps could be heard. Ed was creeped out by them, but he didn't judge them. He checked the Map, and most of the people were blue dots. Except for a few, which was expected.

Ed didn't bother to reserve a room in an inn. He was planning to stay in the tower until he clears it, or until he feels that he leveled up sufficiently. He made his way to the tower that was in the middle of the city. The tower was also surrounded by a circular wall. This made the city look like a giant donut from above. The Tower of Origin was hundreds of meters high. Probably even thousands. It reminded Ed of the tower of Babel.

Ed only needed to show one of the guards the ID ticket he got from the office to be able to enter. He got passed the circular wall and saw the Tower directly for the first time. Many people were in the space between the wall and the Tower. Some of them were enemies according to Ed's Map.

Ed didn't waste any time and entered the tower. Suddenly he felt nauseous. As if he was shook a few times. Ed opened his eyes to see that he wasn't inside the rocky Tower, but instead, he was inside a forest. 'Where is this place?!' Ed was afraid that he might have been caught in a trap laid out by some bandits. He almost panicked but quickly calmed himself.

[Host doesn't need to panic. The Tower's floors are pocket dimensions. They don't exist in the real world.] The system always explained things to Ed.

Ed looked around the forest, but he could see any borders. The floors of the tower didn't look like they exceeded 100m² from the outside. But now, Ed guessed that the floor was as big as his own Kingdom, If not bigger.

"Raikou" Ed didn't bother to hide Raikou now. He would kill anyone who tried to mess with his in this Tower. He will not let anyone escape either. Ed started exploring the floor. He activated his Map and noticed that he was surrounded by red dots. But they were all weak monsters, too afraid to come out.

"System how can I move to the next floor?" Ed didn't want to waste his time killing worthless monsters. His only targets would be Earth Establishment and above.

[You would need to find the teleportation circle yourself, or simply find the floor boss and kill him]. 'Floor boss? What is this, an RPG?' Ed couldn't help but retort in his mind. This setting was way too similar to a game for him. He was also annoyed since in either case, he would have to search for the circle or boss in this large floor.

Ed started looking around. He was using his Short teleports to travel. His space magic had been stuck on level one for a long time now, and this was the chance to level it up. Most of the monsters on this floor were normal ones. Foxes, Boars, Snakes etc… None of them were even King Establishment. Ed spent half an hour before he noticed a large monster. It was a giant bunny with a horn in its head.

"System scan it"

[Scanning…]

Name Big bunny (Floor Boss).

Cultivation: Knight Establishment level 3.

Ed didn't waste any time and teleported behind it. One simple sword slash and its head was rolling on the floor. Ed felt the same sensation as earlier and the scenery changed.

'The teleportation is instantly activated…'. Ed looked up and noticed that he, Raikou, and Suika were in an area that looked like a cave. Some moss on the walls was illuminating this cave. To make matters worse, Ed was in the middle of a group of monsters.
