When Ed reached the group of monsters' location, he found a bunch of black ants. He had read about these ants in the library. They were separated into worker ants, soldier ants, and the queen ant. Most worker ants had Knight Establishment while soldiers were all King establishment. The queen was troublesome as she would even be Earth establishment level 5. If Ed were to fight these monsters he would have to kill them as fast as possible so he wouldn't get ganged up by them.
The monsters were near their nest so he was sure that they would respond in case they were attacked. Ed decided to kill the ones he could see from a distance first. Thanks to his KI control and his great reserve of KI, Ed conjured up 20 fire arrows and sent them all flying towards the ants. There were 10 ants, and they were all worker ants. Two arrows each were more than enough to kill them instantly. Ed had barely gotten 3000 exp from these worker ants.
As soon as the ants died, even more, got out from the nest to see what had happened only to find fire arrows being sent at them. Soon, Ed had killed more than 100 worker ants the same way. His KI wasn't going to last forever so midway he asked Raikou to switch with him.
After so many ants had died, soldier ants finally came out. The difference between the former and the latter was beyond words. The soldier ants' shell was hard and couldn't be hurt by the fire arrows. Ed noticed this and finally decided to come out and fight them directly.
"Raikou I have some stuff I want to test. Stay here with Suika" Ed left and withdrew two of his swords. Ame-No-Murakumo and Shusui. He used Wind Blade on both swords and started fighting the soldier ants one by one. Ame-No-Murakumo had the wind attribute so it further enhanced the wind blade, while Shusui enhanced all skills it was used with.
"Seventy-two-pound cannon!" Ed didn't hold anything back and attacked the first ant from a distance. The wind kept injuring the ant until its shell couldn't hold anymore and was destroyed. After killing the first ant, he moved to kill the other ones.
As soon as he finished one, another would come out of the nest. Ed was now surrounded by ants so he activated his Seikūken. His swords looked as if they were flowing around and with each swing of his swords; a leg would fall off an ant if not a head. Soon enough he had killed about twenty soldier ants and none came out.
The nest seemed to be a small size one as it didn't have a lot of monsters. Ed activated his Map and noticed that a red dot was coming towards him from a small distance to the left. He guessed it was the queen ant and decided to get serious.
"Raikou, Suika! It's time to hunt!" Fighting the queen ant alone would be suicide for Ed currently so he had no choice but to use his companions' help.
The two of them came forward to Ed's side and started getting ready. The queen ant finally appeared and Ed scanned it immediately. It was at Earth Establishment level 3. Ed sighed in relief since he could hunt such a monster with his companions.
Immediately after it appeared, Raikou used his fire magic on it. It was surrounded by fire but seemed like it wasn't harmed at all. Its shell was even tougher than the soldiers. Its size was also bigger, standing even taller than the bear Ed fought last time.
After noticing this, Ed and Raikou moved to opposite spots and started attacking it. In this case, it would have to focus on one opponent while the other does damage to it. However, they didn't expect that the queen would just use earth magic and blow both of them away. Ed and Raikou jumped backward in the air and restored their balance.
"Suika!" Ed was worried about Suika so he looked for her, only to find her above the queen's head.
"Suu!!" Suika used her poison right above the queen's eyes, which led her to let out a scream like a beast's.
"Good job Suika!" Blinding the queen was more than enough to kill it. Suika had helped them immensely this time. However, their opponent was still at a higher level than them. It went berserk after losing its eyesight and randomly used earth magic making unpredictable. Raikou used his lightning magic multiple times on the same spot, making the shell break down bit by bit.
Ed also used a miniature version of the destructo disk on his swords. They had a saw like an effect making them sharper than he could have imagined. The shell felt as if it was a piece of paper after this and Ed could slice it easily. He cut one of the queen's legs every time he swung his swords.
"It's time to end this!" Ed withdrew his Muramasa and used the Three-sword style. "Oni Giri!" Ed crossed his two swords across his chest and placed the blade in his mouth horizontally behind them. He approached the queen in a speed so fast it couldn't even react to him until after it was slashed. Two diagonal and a horizontal deep slash could be seen on the body of the queen. It dies instantly after this attack and Ed heard some notifications.
*Ding*
Obtained 3000 exp.
Acquired Gacha ticket.
"Huh? System didn't the wyvern from before give me more exp. This queen has a higher level than him" Ed questioned the exp he had gotten. He noticed it first when he was killing the soldier ants.
[The wyverns are naturally at a higher rarity than these ants. Obviously, the exp you get from killing them would be higher. Plus these ants are colony ants and they would always be in a group so you could also get more exp that way]. 'That's true I got more exp than I thought in total' Hearing the system's explanation Ed couldn't help but nod his head in approval.
"Suika, I'm going to be training the other monsters so I'll recall you for now" Ed's second objective in this hunt was to give his new monsters some battle experience. He summoned all three of them and checked his Map to choose his next target.
Hello everyone! Worker ants give 300 exp and Soldier ants give 1000 exp in case you were wondering. As for Ed's level ups i'll include his stats after he finishes his hunting trip. Enjoy!
After recalling Suika, Ed summoned his three monsters. "Gobuta, Goburou, and Garu. All of you will be fighting today, it's time to get some hands-on experience. I won't be saving you in case you're in danger" Although Ed said that, it was only to sound serious. He would not let his monsters die as long as he could help it.
All three of them had the same level as Suika. Ed asked the system about that and he was told that the monsters he summons from now on would be at the level of the weakest of his already existing monsters. This was done so the monsters would actually be of help to Ed and not waste time trying to make them stronger.
Ed made it to the monsters he had chosen; it was a group of five monkey-like monsters. They were called Fang monkeys due to their overgrown fangs and all of them were at Knight Establishment level 5. Exactly the kind of challenge Ed's monsters needed to face. The three of them readied themselves with their swords at hands and started their assault.
Gobuta was the first one to advance and reached the closest monkey. He swung his sword as strong as he could but it got stuck on the muscles of the monkey. The monkeys were also known for their muscle's strength that no one under King Establishment could pass. Ed was excited while waiting to see how his monsters would overcome such a challenge.
Goburou and Garu also reached two other monkeys and started fighting them, albeit having the same results. Their slashes would penetrate the skin but never go past the muscles. Ed thought that the three of them would try and target some soft spots since that was the way most people that were in Knight Establishment would kill them. However, what the three of them did next, stunned him.
Gobuta, Goburou, and Garu all coated their swords with QI. Ed hadn't taught them to do this but it seemed like they had a natural talent to use QI. 'I should teach them other stuff than sword techniques' Ed had focused on sword techniques since he hadn't expected the three of them to be able to use QI in their early stage.
The fight after using QI went very differently. A QI sword was a lot stronger than a normal one. Although the swords Ed had given to the three of them were common swords, they still showed spectacular effects. The swords could now, not only cut through the muscles but completely sever the arms of the monkeys.
"Heh!" The three of them let out a snicker that enraged the monkeys causing them to lunge at them. They were trying to bite them with their fangs, only to get beheaded by them. Ed's training showed its effect as they could easily react to the monsters' sudden attack. All three of the monkeys had been killed and only two survived.
The monkeys that were left didn't escape but instead rushed at Ed. His three monsters reacted immediately and intercepted the monkeys. It was simply a repeat of earlier and soon the monkeys fell to the ground.
Ed didn't store the bodies of these monkeys as they were useless to him and simply opened up the Map. "Good job you guys." Ed complimented the three of them and searched for an even bigger challenge. The three looked happy because of the compliment and waited while Ed finished his search. Soon found another mob of monsters and recalled the three of them. Both he and Raikou were a lot faster than them, so it would be faster if they were summoned after reaching the place.
The monsters this time were a group of lizard-like reptiles. They were all King Establishment level 1-2. These monsters had the fire element and their fangs were laced with poison. The poison would kill anyone under Knight Establishment level 5 in only a few minutes so the three had to be careful.
"Watch out for their bites and don't get distracted by the fire magic they have thrown at you. Keep your guard up at all times" Ed gave them the best advice he could think of and let them attack.
The monsters this time noticed them and attacked them before they could reach them. Fire arrows and balls were thrown at them. There were five lizards so Gobuta and the rest would get overwhelmed if they didn't act smartly. Gobuta and the other two maintained a level-headed approach and simply dodged the magic while keeping check of the lizards. Soon enough they were right in front of them.
The lizards had no choice but to try and kill the approaching three with their poison. Their fire magic didn't even slow them down so they didn't think further than that. The lizards did the same thing as the monkeys from before and lunged at the three, however, Gobuta, Goburou, and Garu were ready.
They timed their sword swing at the right time, slashing upwards causing the head of three lizards to fall. The two lizards that didn't get killed almost bit Gobuta and Goburou, but the two of them were swift enough to dodge backward. The three of them then killed the lizards and returned to Ed's side.
Ed was surprised at the strength of his monsters. Although he had trained them hard this past week, their performance was still much greater than he had expected. However, they still had a lot of room to improve since currently, they were the weakest out of Ed's monsters. 'Perhaps if they evolve a second time their abilities would get even stronger' Ed was thinking about future possibilities while deciding on his next move. It was now sundown and he didn't feel like hunting in the night.
Ed searched for a proper resting place and set up his camp there. He made some food from the monster meat he had in his Inventory and fed Gobuta and the rest first. He then recalled them and summoned Suika. The three ate again and prepared to sleep. He had to get up early in the morning to hunt even more.
