Chapter 5: Have A Shot
Hearing that Yang YingYing has her eyes on the new guy, all the other students feel dejected. The girls felt that compared to YingYing, they no longer have a shot with the new guy since whichever guy YingYing wants, she always get them. The guys felt jealous as YingYing was akin to the most popular and prettiest girl in their district and all of them wanted a chance with her.
Ignoring everyone else, Yang YingYing sashayed up to the new guy and introduced herself, "Hey handsome, my name is YingYing, and I am the head cheerleader!" Looking at this strange girl, Pu YunJi did not know how to response. He knew from experience that girls like this were very vicious and hard to deal with, hence he did not dare to do anything. However, his knowledge stopped there as he always had been the youngest and the others will always help him out, always protect him.
Looking towards Qin XiuTing, Pu YunJi silently begged for help. However, Qin XiuTing was looking down, and not to him. He knew then that he had to help himself. Thinking of all the movies he had watched, he felt that he needs to portray a 'play boy' look.
Smirking now, Pu YunJi pretended to look at the girl shyly from behind his fringe. (He actually did not need to pretend, he was after all a little frighten of YingYing.)
"Handsome? Me? Awh shucks, I'm honoured to be called such by such a beauty."
Giggling, Yang YingYing lightly placed a elegant hand on Pu YunJi's chest, saying, "Of course it's you! Who else can be worthy of the title of 'handsome' here?" Pu YunJi, being still just a boy, preened after hearing that sentence, for who does not like being praised? But the other guys who were present were not happy and many were already planning on how to make YunJi make a fool out of himself in front of their goddess.
"So handsome, what is your name?" Yang YingYing continued to probe.
"I like handsome! I shall be called handsome from now on!" Pu YunJi joked and looked to Qin XiuTing, expecting her to laugh too. However, seeing her still staring at the ground, he raised an eyebrow and felt very baffled.
Why does Qin XiuTing seems so cut out of the world?
Yang YingYing, upon hearing Pu YunJi's reply felt a little unhappy as he did not answer her question, the audacity! However, she decided to let this slide for now and probed again, her smile a little forced now. She did not notice Pu YunJi's glance to Qin XiuTing.
"Come on now, what is your real name?" Yang YingYing purposely made herself sound more helpless and cute, which made many guys want to hug her so bad.
"Why do you need to know so desperately, YingYing jie [1]?" A loud and deep voice boomed from the back of the crowd, saving Pu YunJi from answering. Hearing that voice, Qin XiuTing's head immediately shot up with a frightened expression.
The voice's owner walked slowly and arrogantly into the middle of the crowd, which is also towards Yang YingYing and Pu YunJi. Seeing who it was, Yang YingYing huffed and said "Hng! YongKang! That is none of your business!"
"How can it not be my business when you are hitting on a new nobody right in front of me, and so many of my brothers [2], my dearest YingYing jie ~" Wu YongKang cheekily answered, before his eyes traveled to Qin XiuTing.
"Yo?! Is this not bookworm Qin? What is this little worm doing out of her hole, huh?"
Looking at what is happening, Pu YunJi roughly understands that his student guide is of perhaps the lowest rank of the social circle in this school and that was why she had her head down. She did not want to be bothered with and she also knew no one will want to bother her.. Well, no one, except for this.. Wu YongKang.
And why is that so? Pu YunJi wanted to continue pondering about that question, but he wanted to get out of this situation even more badly.
"No one is hitting on anyone, senior brother," Pu YunJi started to try and diffuse this problem, "and Miss Qin is my --" However, before he could finish, Wu YongKang shot him a glare, before smirking and interrupting him.
"Who the hell are you to start talking to me? Don't think you are some kind of hot shot just because YingYing jie bothered to 'welcome' you. I asked you nothing, you do not open your mouth" Wu YongKang harshly told Pu YunJi.
"Wha--" Pu YunJi started before quickly closing it although he was unhappy.
"Yah Wu YongKang! Who do you think you are too? To demand a student to stop talking! To you? What example are you setting for a new student?" Qin XiuTing suddenly burst out.
Everyone was shocked! Had the introverted, quiet bookworm shouted out just now and gave Wu YongKang a scolding? Even Qin XiuTing was shocked at herself too. What had she done? Why did she do it? It was okay if Wu YongKang was picking on her, but Pu YunJi was her charge and so she felt responsible for him.
Previously, when Yang YingYing was talking to him, she had kept quiet as she felt that YingYing does not really possess much hostility to Pu YunJi. Also, YunJi seemed to handle her quite well. But when Wu YongKang appeared, she was already very scared. However, seeing YongKang disrespecting her charge, an immense rage had taken over her and she had felt the need to protect Pu YunJi, hence those words had tumbled out of her mouth without a second thought.
"You... Qin XiuTing, have I been too easy on you? Your wings are hard and ready to fly [3] now huh?" Wu YongKang sneered.

[1] Jie means elder sister in Chinese (姐). In a youngster context, this is often said by a younger guy to an elder girl in a more flirtatious manner.
[2] Brothers in this context means buddies / friends an not literal brothers.
[3] The phrase 'wings are hard and ready to fly' is a direct translate plus further elaboration of the Chinese phrase '翅膀硬了". It means in a sarcastic manner that one thinks that he himself is much better than the others already. It is derived from young birds who thinks their wings are are strong enough to fly already even after their parents told them not to yet.

I have an upcoming competition next month and I have been busy at practice last week. I hate myself I am so sorry uwu.
And I am having camp this week so ahhh I can't update much.
