Chapter 18: Even a Chicken can be a Spirit Beast

Alex stood slightly out of breath, lying in front of him was the giant limp body of a High Rank 2 Armored Anaconda Spirit Beast.

Nine days had passed since the cursed Panda encounter. Who would've thought that damned Panda was the new king of the forest biome?

Immediately after attacking with the first stance of the spring lightning sword technique, the panda sneered at his crude and still unpracticed sword move and crushed it with one wave of a paw. Alex still felt embarrassed by the arrogant look that the stupid panda gave him clearly looking down on him.

Alex didn't know why the panda was fighting that dead spirit wolf king, but after the panda released its might, a tiny "king" symbol clearly appeared on its head in bright silver declaring the new king of the Forest Biome.

"Stupid Panda, It's not like you're stronger than me. You're just lucky I ran into you before I had the chance to cultivate and practice my sword technique, Just Wait!"

Thinking back to how he had to escape in a sorry figure back them, Alex felt even more riled up to fight the panda. After all, he hadn't slacked off the past few days. After running off from the arrogant panda, Alex used whatever spirit beast he found as a target to practice his sword.

The Spirit beast race was one of the main races of the God and Devil world besides the Human race and the Demon Race. Also like the Human and Demon race, most of the Spirit beast race began cultivation in the mortal realm. They were mostly made up of normal animals that used natural energy to start cultivating, including snakes, wolves, deers, eagles, hawks, and etc.

Besides putting a great amount of importance on bloodlines, the Spirit beast's cultivation inheritance was more complete and had nine ranks of power. The levels were further separated into Low, Medium, High, and peak levels. The first level corresponded to the Ascension/Devilization realm, and so on and so on...

The giant panda was at the peak of the 2nd rank. After running off, the first thing Alex did was find a quiet spot in the trees to cultivate. Sitting on a random branch away from any wildlife, he silently dampened his thoughts and quietly cultivated.

This cultivation segment went on for three days. For these three days, Alex continued to work on his Shining Great Treasure Body Technique and refining his Earth realm of the Body Cultivation path. By the end of the third day, Alex's flesh had fully turned silver and he reached the great completion of the Flesh to Silver level (A.K.A. Earth Realm).

He had now reached the same cultivation level as that damned panda. The only thing to do now was to practice his sword technique and shove it in that panda's stupid face.

After descending from the branch, Alex wandered around the forest until he found the first spirit beast to practice on, a wolf spirit beast.

This wolf spirit beast had a high-level rank 1 cultivation. Its fur was light grey, and it was almost four feet tall. There was a clear difference between the dead wolf spirit king and this wolf spirit beast. Just in size alone, the dead wolf king was at least 6 feet, not to mention the power hidden in its corpse.

This was the perfect target, Alex thought. He brought his sword out of the system and into his left hand. Circulating the path for the first stance, Alex's skin turned to gold, and he leaped in front of the wolf.

[First Stance- Spring Sky]

The wolf spirit beast reacted immediately and jumped back and growled, sizing Alex and the surroundings up and down.

GRRRR!

The surrounding light zapped into Thunderbolt's blade and Alex dashed forward with the blade pointing out in front of him. The Spirit wolf jumped and dodged to the left at the last second, and a slight smoke rose from its body. A burnt smell rose in the air and a straight line of burnt fur appeared on its right side, showing the powerful muscles underneath.

Close! I almost got him, Alex thought.

Alex jumped back to put some distance between the wolf and him.

GRRR!

Not giving him a single breath, the wolf lunged towards him and swiped its left paw at Alex.

SHRRRR!

The spirit wolf's claw shrieked in the air as it came towards Alex. He quickly raised Thunderbolt in front of him, using the sharp end of its blade to catch the blow, and swung his legs backward to balance his body. The wolf cried out in pain as it's claw connected with the sword's blade, Alex took the opportunity to circulate the second move of the Spring Lightning Sword Technique.

[Second Stance- Thunder Roar]

A rumble of thunder echoed off the blade of The Thunderbolt Sword, slightly solidifying the air around the spirit beast and slowing its movement. Not giving the wolf the chance to adjust, Alex cried out, "Now!" He quickly moved into the third stance of the Spring Lightning Sword Technique and raised his Sword above him.

[Third Stance- Spring Lightning Descent]

A Streak of Orange Lightning descended on The Spirit Wolf as it somewhat slowly raised its head to look the sword in Alex's hand.

Boom!

With the disappearance of the Orange Lightning Strike, A Purple Sword appeared cleanly pierced through The Spirit Wolf's Head.

The Spirit Wolf Slumped to the ground in front of Alex, it's still pierced head sliding down the sword with its body. Alex let out a slight breath and picked up his sword out of the ground and head before swinging it around to get the blood and other bits off.

Taking in a breath, Alex kicked the ground and up flew to the branches. He slowly disappeared into the foliage and thought back to the fight. Although only a few seconds long, there was plenty he could learn from it. Catching the wolf by surprise was a good move, but his first strike wasn't steady enough and he gave the wolf enough time to dodge the full power of the strike, or he would've won the fight with one move.

Not only that but after the first attack, he should have followed through with the second stance right then and there, as a result, he gave the spirit wolf enough space to attack him. He also could've used the momentum from blocking the wolf's claw attack more efficiently.

Alex continued to run the scenes of the fight in his mind, slowly soaking up every bit of fighting experience he could.

Finally getting all he could out of that fight, Alex jumped down from the branches and started walking in a direction. Every step taking him 10 yards ahead.

It didn't take long before another Spirit Beast appeared before Alex. This time it was a Chicken, a fat, chubby fiery red Peak Rank 1 Chicken. Alex looked weirdly at the 4ft tall Chicken, back on Earth, this would be considered a giant f*cking chicken abomination and a feast.

"Even a Chicken can be a Spirit Beast," Alex took out Thunderbolt from the system bewildered.

Walking forward some more with Thunderbolt hanging in his left hand, Alex silently activated the first stance of the Spring Lightning Sword Technique.

[First Stance- Spring Sky]

The surrounding light flew towards thunderbolt as it glowed a beautiful shade of orange. Getting close enough to the giant chicken for it to notice him and his sword, Alex stomped the ground and flew forward.

CLUCKK!!

The Spirit Chicken shrieked loudly and flapped its wings, raising bursts of wind. Alex swung his sword at the wind, cutting through it with little effort.

[Second Stance- Thunder Roar]

The Drum of Thunder that echoed of the blade of Thunderbolt shook the giant chicken off its two feet with a-

CLUCKKKK!!!

-Shriek.

Alex reached the fallen chicken now struggling to get up from its predicament and raised his sword.

[Third Stance- Spring Lighting Descent]

An Orange Bolt swiftly pierced through the giant chicken, ending its life. Alex picked up the sword from the body and swung the blood off. This battle was much easier. Now, he put the sword away and rubbed his hands, Time to Eat!

...

Another 5 days passed by slowly consisting of Alex hunting whatever spirit beast he found worthy to practice his sword technique on. At this point, Alex had given up on fighting rank 1 spirit beasts. He had gained a hundred percent win rate after gathering his current fighting experience.

After devouring a certain giant chicken he had hunted, he found another spirit beast a couple of hours later. This time it was a Low-level Rank 2 Spirit Leopard. This battle lasted a couple of minutes, making it the most difficult battle he's faced so far. The Spirit Leopard had a really fast reaction time and used its very cunning attacks to take advantage of Alex's battle inexperience.

Facing such an opponent, Alex eventually resulted to using his superior speed and strength to overwhelm the Spirit Leopard and cutting off its tail as it escaped. This battle brought much fighting experience to Alex, and he was eagerly looking forward to the next battle.

The Next Spirit Beast Alex met was early on the next day. This time it was a Low-level Rank 2 stone monkey. It swung on branches ahead of him and despite chasing it for half a day, he couldn't catch the slippery beast. After another hour, he finally ran into another low rank 2 spirit beast.

This time, Alex found a low rank 2 Leaf Python. This battle lasted around a minute with Alex having the advantage until he used Spring Lightning Descent to behead the beast. This cycle continued for the next three days until Alex gradually gathered enough fighting experience to fight medium rank 2 Spirit Beasts, as well as High Rank 2 Spirit Beasts easily with The Spring Lightning Sword Technique.

On The 8th day of the mission, Alex stood over A Giant Grey Bear's Limp Body. His Sword covered in green blood, he stared at the darkened sky. This was the strongest High Rank 2 Spirit Beast he had fought so far and not only was he not scratched, but He also only used Two Beautiful Stances to Cut the Bear Down.

Looking down, Alex tapped his left foot and flew up into the branches before disappearing in the foliage.

"Finally, Damned Panda, I'm Coming for You!
