Chapter 11: Duel & Monsters
(1st Person POV)
Lord Alexander looked and me and nodded, "It's time to show your worth." He said.
I need to make an imposing impression so I am popping my joints one by one and stretching my limbs.
While popping the joints of my fingers I approach Shaine, the old gramps.
Of course, I am not stupid enough to just charge at him, I am superior in strength, flexibility and coordination, 2 of those things I cannot use 100% to my advantage, whereas he has a long time of battles on his account the way he looks. Meaning his techniques and muscle memory surpass mine by lengths.
In conclusion, I have to stay out of his range as much as possible and proceed with a hit-and-run tactic since once he has me in his grasps I am done for.
Therefore, we entered a standstill, both of us in our respective stances waiting for our opponent.
However, he did not seem to like that idea, in two steps he quickly covered the distance between us and attacked my stomach with a straight right.
'Shit, Shit, Shit.'
I retreated, and he followed up with a quick left hook aimed at my head.
Seeing a chance, I averted the hook to go above me with my right arm and approached daringly.
'Hehe, witness my prowess!'
I turned clockwise and rammed my elbow into his stomach with as much force as I could muster.
'Nice one' I thought to myself while quickly back stepping to retreat.
Although impactful, my elbow strike did not seem to faze him and he quickly regained his stance.
'What the h*ck!?' I looked dumbfounded. 'Shouldn't he at least gasp for air!?'
I could not explore this further since he attacked me again.
He got close to me and threw jab after jab and I retreated, I could not find any opportunity to counter since he was throwing jabs like rapid fire.
'Hey, Hey, Hey, can't you just stop for a second?'
I could not do anything but retreat and when I back stepped another time a stone was sticking out of the ground and I fell backward.
'Fuck'
It seemed like his eyes shined for a moment as he threw himself at me with his knee aimed at my chest.
Still in the air, I could feel the advantage of the enhanced balance and I knew exactly what to do.
Since my right foot tripped on the stone, my left foot pounded against the ground and I pushed my body to make an action roll to the right evading Shaine.
'Phew.'
We both stood up and entered a standstill again.
This back and forth was going on for a while so when we were both exhausted the true fight began.
Wiping the sweat from my forehead I looked at Shaine the old gramps was still standing strong with open and energized eyes. Until now, neither one of us nor Alexander or Scarface spoke so I decided to taunt him, he was really getting on my nerves.
"Hey old fart, are you sure you're not too old for this? I don't want you to fall down and break your hips." Considering this was more of a spar than an actual fight, it probably was too much but I do not care.
"Impudent." While speaking syllable for syllable his expression only turned slightly grimmer but nothing more.
We started exchanging blows again, one after one slowly exhausting ourselves when Shaine found an opportunity and brought me to the ground.
'Fuck.'
The geezer nodded towards Alexander and went towards the mansion.
I slowly climbed up to stand again and looked at Alexander.
He began to laugh "Haha, to be on par with Shaine, really good. Welcome to Oblisey Grey Wolves."
He padded my shoulder.
3 months later - Mission #11: Lizard Leech
An abomination; looks like a lizard but only has two feet; drags his tail around and has a giant fucking mouth. This thing is truly fucked up.
However, I forgot to say that it can spit out its gastric acid, corrodes an enemy while it paralyzes them, you do not want to be hit with that.
While we are pulling the aggro of this monstrosity with the mounted archers helping in the back, the siege squad is preparing the ballistae to kill that thing.
That geezer Shaine shouted at the siege squad "How long do you need to set up!?"
"We just need half a minute." Shouted one of the siege squad members back.
We vanguards needed to hold the lizard leech back and keep it in the encirclement, so it was good news, that thing could be killed in only half a minute.
I constantly thrust my spear into the skin of the monster but stayed in line so it could not attack me, others before me did not pay attention to this and were chomped by that thing
Like that person on my left right now, he stepped out of line and was bombarded with that monster's gastric acid, now he has to fight for his life inside the monster's stomach and probably will not survive that.
Then, many ballistae released their bolts which landed in the monster's body, but that was not enough, it still had a sliver of vitality and thrashed around viciously pushing back many vanguards.
'Fuck, why is it still alive, they need an eternity to set up shots again.'
However, when the lizard monster faced my direction, I had an idea.
It extended his head out to chomp at a vanguard on my right.
'Come on, just a little more.'
That is when I jumped up into the monster's direction and accurately stabbed my spear with both hands into the monster's eye.
'Headshot.'
However, it thrashed around one more time and before it could slam its head against the ground, I jumped down from his head watched as the last energy of it left its body.
'Hehe.'
When it died, I jumped where my spear impaled his skull and pulled it out to lift it to the sky.
The vanguards cheered me on while the mounted archers and the siege squad prepared for the way back.
Over the last couple of months, I learned a lot.
1. If you don't have enough strength to rip of a monster's limb a sword is useless since their defense is too strong, a sword just doesn't cut it (A/N: I'm so fucking funny)
2. Polearms, thrusting weapons, axes or picks are the better picks (A/N: WHEEEEZEE)
3. A common mercenary band fighting against monsters is made up of three squads:
a) Vanguards:
-restrict the target and keep it in the encirclement
-receive the brunt of the attack
-pull the aggro of the target
b) Mounted archers:
-lead the target into the encirclement
-confuse and annoy the target
-deal damage
c) Siege Squad:
-carry ballistae --> are slow
-deal the most damage
4. Killing monsters is fun
5. The Quality of the meridians directly translate to the Qi affinity
