"Kiba, just wait. I will make you learn that no matter how powerful you are, it is useless in front of an entire Corporation! I will make you regret being born!" Jack swore silently within himself.
He turned his gaze toward Kiba, engaged in conversation with Eva and Richard. Jack noticed how Kiba attempted to coax Eva into agreeing to his 'proposal' with a disarming smile.
Though Jack wasn't privy to the details of the proposal, the grimace on Richard's face made it evident that it was far from respectable.
"Eva, what kind of fiancée would you be if you can't assist your betrothed? Put aside your pride and lend me your aid, so I may assist your fiancé," Kiba urged patiently.
"Kiba, don't push it too far!" Richard cautioned.
How could Jack tolerate Kiba's advances toward his fiancée right in front of him?
What irked him most was Kiba's attempt to use him as a pretext to seduce his fiancée!
That damned bastard!
"Richard, why so agitated? Are you both moved by my sacrificial gestures?" Kiba inquired with a pensive expression.
"Y-you!" Richard struggled to find words for such audacity!
"Eva, Richard, please, relax. I don't mind making sacrifices if it benefits you. As a wise person once said: 'Sometimes when you sacrifice something precious, you're not really losing it. You're just passing it on to someone else.' The same principle applies here. I'm not losing anything; I'm simply transferring my affection to Eva," Kiba explained, his demeanor suggesting he welcomed the 'sacrifice'.
Richard spat out another mouthful of blood in sheer anger!
Shameless! Utterly shameless!
He had never encountered such brazenness in his entire life!
"Sir Kiba, please desist," Carole intervened.
She knew she had to halt Kiba's advances before Richard lost control. If that happened, Richard would likely face the same fate as Jack—a slap. It would only compound the mess she'd have to clean up.
The head guard, who had split the medical unit in anticipation of a potential 'slapping' incident, sighed dishearteningly upon seeing Carole's intervention.
He felt disheartened to see his well-intentioned efforts go to waste.
For the first time in history, the guards had been divided into two teams to handle a potential slapping situation, yet now it seemed there would be none!
The subordinate guards were at a loss for words witnessing the crestfallen expression on their leader's face.
"Why is the head guard saddened when our workload has decreased!?" the guards pondered.
Richard felt a surge of relief seeing Carole come to his aid. At least he could salvage some dignity in Eva's presence now.
"Carole, no need to 'please' me. A woman as refined as you need not plead for anything," Kiba remarked, accompanied by a suggestive wink, hinting at the underlying meaning of his words.
Carole was accustomed to Kiba's shameless demeanor, so she wasn't offended. Sometimes she found his flirtatious nature preferable to those who made derogatory remarks behind her back. He might be shameless, but he never attempted to force himself on her—an uncommon trait in today's world.
"Sir Kiba, let's proceed to the lounge where Chairman Hank awaits you," Carole suggested, having taken the suitcase from Kiba earlier. The suitcase contained the minerals Kiba had pilfered from the mutants of the Sky Fiend Group, the primary purpose of his visit.
"Carole, have you not heard the proverb, 'All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy'?" Kiba inquired, his notion of 'play' evident.
She looked resplendent in her red bell-sleeved top and patterned skirt. The ensemble only enhanced her beauty, especially the striking top with its elongated bell sleeves. Her blonde locks added to the allure of this exquisite beauty.
"I am familiar with the proverb, but I highly doubt it carries the connotation you're insinuating," Carole responded with a smile, a rare occurrence that only accentuated her beauty.
"How about a date to discuss the interpretation of the proverb?" Kiba proposed.
"Would it truly be just a date, or something more?" Carole inquired coyly.
"Would it really be just a date, or something more?" Carole inquired, her intention thinly veiled.
Everyone was aware of Kiba's reputation with women. He sought only physical pleasure, not emotional connection!
"It can be whatever you desire," Kiba replied with a sincere smile. "You know me well enough to understand I have my limits."
Carole found amusement in his response. With a playful grin, she teased, "If you play your cards right, I might consider a date and nothing more!"
"As you wish, my lady," Kiba bowed as if he were her servant and she his mistress.
He was satisfied with this concession. Every journey begins with a single step, and patience is key when seeking a woman's favor.
Jack and Richard seethed with envy and animosity. Despite their past attempts, they had failed to win Carole's affections. With another woman, they might have resorted to force or manipulation, but not with her. While she held the title of chief secretary, her influence within the company was formidable.
Her competence in her role earned her the respect of even the old-fashioned chairman, who typically viewed women as mere objects of desire and reproduction. Yet, even he couldn't deny her exceptional talent.
Moreover, beyond her corporate authority, she was a formidable mutant. Though her specialty lay in agility, her strength was not to be underestimated. Through artificial enhancements, she had acquired formidable energy-based abilities.
In the current age, advancements in human augmentation technology allowed mutants to possess multiple powers. However, such procedures were perilous, often pushing the limits of the human body. Only a select few could survive the enhancement process.
"Carole, reconsider going on a date with him," Jack interjected. "His reputation precedes him."
How could he allow Kiba to succeed where even he had failed?
Furthermore, Jack had endured profound humiliation at Kiba's hands. He yearned for retribution, no matter how slight.
"Jack, is this how you repay me for the favor I bestowed upon you?" Kiba remained unperturbed.
"What favor?"
"Have you forgotten already? We discussed it just moments ago!"
Kiba's demeanor appeared wounded.
"I took care of your wife's pregnancy for you, and now you question my reputation?"
"BASTARD!" Jack struggled to contain his fury.
Moments ago, Kiba had made the same claim, and when Jack attempted to retaliate, he was swiftly defeated. This time, Jack dared not provoke Kiba again.
You dare claim credit for my wife's child and expect my gratitude?
"Kiba, the child in Agatha's womb is mine!"
Jack ground his teeth as he spoke. The technology for prenatal paternity testing was neither new nor sophisticated.
"Are you certain the child isn't mine?" Kiba inquired with a pensive expression.
"Absolutely!" Jack affirmed.
"Really? I remember Agatha telling that I have reached a spot no man has ever reached!'"
