Mrs. Caden's Cosmetic Addiction
Mrs. Caden is obsessed with cosmetic procedures. At fifty-six, with her technologically-enhanced face, she looks even younger than me when standing by my side.
I told my husband we should try to talk Mrs. Caden out of it, as cosmetic procedures have their risks, and she undergoes them far too frequently.
But my husband got angry: "My mom looks good, which makes me look good when we're out. You, on the other hand, always look like a haggard housewife. It's embarrassing to be seen with you."
Three days later, I discovered that to pay for a membership card, Mrs. Caden had cancelled the insurance policy I bought, and the 500,000 I had paid in premiums over the years all ended up in her hands.
I broke down and caused a huge scene, but the two of them just watched me coldly: "What's the use of saving that stuff? It's better spent on my cosmetic procedures."
Later, my husband was diagnosed with cancer and needed a huge amount for medical fees. Mrs. Caden demanded I pay, but I just spread my hands and said, "If you hadn't cashed out the insurance policy back then, we might have had the money to treat your son. Now, just let him wait for death."
