Questions about the literary masterpiece Journey to the West

Why was Sha Wujing the only non-animal among the disciples of Tang Sanzang in the famous Chinese literary novel Journey to the West? Bajie was a pig, and Wukong was a monkey. Why wasn't Lao Sha an elephant, chicken, dog, or something like that? Or grass, mud, or horses. Why? Was this necessary for the plot? Or did Old Mr. Wu Chengen have other intentions? Could it be? Did Junior Brother Sha have infinite happiness in it? He really needed the guidance of an expert. By the way, why did Tathagata's hair look like that? Could it be that he was a very, very trendy person? Thank you all.

Journey to the West was a famous Chinese literary novel. It told the story of Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, Monk Sand, and Tang Sanzang (also known as the "Journey to the West") who went to India to retrieve Buddhist scriptures. In the process, they experienced many dangers and difficulties and met many magical creatures and people. Among them, Sun Wukong was one of the main characters in Journey to the West. He was a powerful monkey with seventy-two transformations. Zhu Bajie was a monster who liked to eat people, but he also had a kind side. Monk Sand was a monk from the Flowing Sand River. Although he had a gentle personality, he was also affected by some evil. Tang Sanzang was a benevolent monk. He led a group of people to the west, hoping to retrieve the scriptures and purify the world. There were many classic plots in Journey to the West, such as the battle between Sun Wukong and the Bull Demon King, the encounter of Tang Sanzang being captured by demons, and the journey of Zhu Bajie and Monk Sand to obtain scriptures. This novel not only showed the profoundness of ancient Chinese literature, but it was also widely praised and adapted into one of the treasures of Chinese culture.
