It’s interesting that this thing happened irl too. In Europe after ww2 during the Soviet Union people would hunt prisoners that escaped from “gulags” ( Siberian camps) and would hand them in to authorities in exchange for food or money, cutting off and keeping their ears on a thread as proof for later interactions with actual officers/ military man or just as a sick hobby. History classes are in some way traumatising but fascinating to 🙂
Their favourite was cutting off the long pointy ears and nailing them to the walls of their borders. Some even competed on how many ears they’ve nailed.
