No, the US does love and respect the soldiers. The "military" is a very broad term. Most people, I believe, would say they like the military at the very least. It defends them and their interests across the globe. But you wouldn't give your child to the military. It's not their role to treat patients.

He did it for power. To say he did it for no reason is dishonest. To get stronger in a world where others have the ability to blow a fireball in your face is understable. A world where conflict is more prevelant. It might even be a better reason to kill than simply for food.
