I think this is simple he want them to be as strong as possible and to depend on him but not be dependent on him. Since it would be a weakness no matter how strong he is, it is still a weakness.

Concubines basically were wives that just didn't have the status to be official throughout history. I'm not saying of course there were no exceptions to this but typically that was the reason.
She wasn't mentioned when they came back after spending so much time away she may have died. Or maybe she's in closed door cultivation or something. But personally I would like to see her change of heart as well.
