Emily is so smart. She has always been. As expected from the female lead in the "original novel".😊 Though I personally think that Emily is not a likeable character, I can't help to feel amazed by her wits and confidence. Meanwhile, I was thinking if at some point later she would aid Serena in this romance-and-politics-involved tragedy despite her dislike to Serena. Well, they are frienemies, and she knows some information that may change the course of events.
Emily listened in as she remained standing. Though she should feel pity for the younger lady, she couldn't bring herself to. First, she's the one to commit sideways parrying which was a foul. Ok, so maybe she was only an amateur and didn't mean to cause an accident because of it. Second, she didn't like her from the start. That's a little mean but it's not like she's wishing for her doom or her case to worsen. Third, a part of her suspected that her fall was deliberate. Annalys was able to hold on to her horse the whole time it was bucking, and only when it almost trampled on Serena had she fallen from it. Where will such convenient timing exist? Yes, she knew that it was an accident without a doubt, but she believes that Annalys did the falling to escape blame in preparation for a worst-case scenario. The third point made her think that Annalys was actually smarter than she seems.

I wonder if this is what Charlton truly feels. Is it really not jealousy? Or he is just in denial. If it is, will he finally realizes. And when he does... Ugh... He is indeed a different man from he was four years ago. Well, who would not be a different man after what he has been through. However, I can't help feeling a bit empty that there is old-self Charlton no more.
No. He was not jealous. It's just that he could not help but wonder. Would she have spread her legs so easily for another man? With just some coaxing words would she let them fuck her? Then again, he did not need to think that far. After all, whether it be in the past or the present, he has always been the other man.

Charlton seems denying everything what he truly feels. I hope that is the case, that he actually still loves Serena. And hopefully one day he will realize. But, in Serena's pov, I have been thinking if Serena will go "villainess mode" when she finds out the truth, that Charlton has manipulated her, so did Geoffrey. Somehow I hope she would. At least she get to avenge "what they have done to her". hehe
