while the MC may be new to the Pokemon world he has the old Tyson's memories
Just as the two sides were about to clash, Larvitar winced in pain. The damage it had taken earlier was not without consequences, as its right shoulder was injured during Gible's previous Dig and Bite combo, causing its attack to veer off course and miss its target. With a loud bang, Gible slammed into Larvitar's side, throwing the small dinosaur to the side and onto its back, unresponsive. Noticing that Larvitar was unable to continue, Shane called the match: "And the winner is Cynthia." Looking at the unconscious Larvitar, Tyson was taken aback. 'We... lost?' he thought. Tyson was not overly confident in victory, but he had not anticipated defeat either. Taking out Larvitar's Pokéball, Tyson returned his partner with a bitter expression. This was his first loss since arriving in this world, and reflecting on the battle, he recognized his mistake in losing composure after Gible's first successful Dig.

thanks for asking actually no this would be one of his many fights before the main character came in he had Larvitar for 4 years ever since he was 8 years old in those four years Larvitar has had battles against his classmates at the old trainer School lore for later. So while it's his second time battling since transferring over Larvitar on the other hand is not new to battle

Holding the ball, Tyson glanced at the ant and declared, "Well, Trapinch, I'll be in your care from now on." In response, the little ant grinned and replied, "Trap" [No Problem]. Turning to Sophia, Tyson expressed his gratitude, "Thank you for this, Sophia," to which she responded, "No problem." After thanking Ms. Thompson once again, Tyson beckoned, "Come on, Trapinch, let's go home and eat," as they started their journey home. Left alone with Sophia, Ms. Thompson inquired, "Do you think he'll be a good partner for the little one?" Sophia nodded affirmatively and assured with a smile, "I know he will."

To the side, Shane chuckled, receiving an elbow nudge from Bertha. It was finally his grandparents' turn, and each held a box. "I'll go first," Shane declared, handing his box to Tyson. "You're going to like this one," he remarked as Tyson started to unwrap his gift. Inside was a medium-sized Tyranitar-shaped backpack with various pockets. Tyson looked up at Shane in astonishment. "No way," he exclaimed, to which Shane replied, "Yes way, I had it custom-made by a colleague of mine in Hoenn, just for you, son." Tyson set the box aside and embraced Shane tightly, expressing his gratitude. 'Yes, my very own special backpack; this will make carrying things so much easier,' Tyson thought to himself.

Upon arriving at the Pokémon Center, the group walked in to see the familiar hustle and bustle. They approached the front desk leisurely. Tyson greeted, "Nurse Joy, I'm back," to which she warmly responded, "Oh, Tyson, welcome back! And who might your friends be?" After swiftly introducing Tony and Amelia, the trio entrusted their Pokémon to Nurse Joy's capable hands before heading to the adjacent lounge area for a conversation.

Don't worry, I enjoy comments like this cause it lets me think of the story from multiple angles and that will help in the future, so thanks for the comment. It's comments like these that help me improve as a writer ^^
Upon leaving the store, Tyson cradled four books under his arm. One, titled "Wonders of The World," contained maps and descriptions of various landmarks around the globe, and was, regrettably, the third thickest volume he had acquired. The second, "History of Sinnoh," seemed essential, especially since his grandparents were due to arrive in two days, and his knowledge of Sinnoh was limited to anime episodes and "Pokémon Diamond" gameplay. The last book, a pocket-sized tome called "World Survival Guide," he intended to peruse later, hoping it would be as useful in this world as it would have been in his own.
