honestly, I kept reading this story for the first sixyish chapters, where it was mainly action. But this has turned into a drama/mystery fest that just drags on and on, and well that's not my thing.

I like it more in the past tense, probably because I'm used to reading it that way and present tense feels awkward somehow.
Try sir lucifer morningstar's and Dark Wolf shiro's works on fanfiction, some of them are quite good.
I would suggest selecting past or present and sticking with it. changing tenses can come off as off-putting.
