Nowhere in that line do we see them talk about needing to go through a portal to get to or from Asgard. A ship doesn't fit through the bifrost. So it would seem Spaceships (from earth, or anywhere) can fly to Asgard, which is a physical planet in the universe. The bifrost just gets you there quicker.
