The reason why so many dislike that the mc should join Straw Hat Pirates, is two sided. The first reason is that an overwhelming amount of One Piece fanfictions lack creativity and just follow the same story as the canon, but with just another person introduced. So first, they will get Zoro, Sanji, Nami and so on, exactly the same as canon, and upon that, most fanfics are dropped, so this will probably drop before we get to the interesting part of New World. It's very predictable and most readers are tired of reading about the first few islands in One Piece. Then the second reason is because the readers are familiar with the canon canon characters, and they each have their own distinct characters, and most authors of One Piece fanfics fail at portraying the canon characters properly. They fail at portraying Zoro like he is portrayed in One Piece. These two reasons combined makes it hard for the reader to read a story where the MC joins Straw hat Pirates. which means, that as an author you have to overcome two big walls, first, is to either skip the story until paradise or New world directly. or try to make the first part interesting, which will be hard because we have read that part a thousand times already and are very familiar with it. And upon that, you have to make sure to constantly portray your characters according to who they are.
