Bel pulled away from him without saying thanks. She smoothed her dress as if to dust away dirt, even though she didn't fall, and started walking again.
Davien gave a frustrated laugh as he walked after her. She didn't turn around or say anything, just kept on walking. She took the steps leading to the front of the castle as quickly as she could without falling. She was determined to avoid another accident.
She was irritated that she could tell he was close behind her. Was it weird that she would have preferred to have fallen flat on her face than be rescued by him? The last thing she wanted was to owe him. She hated his guts and wanted it to stay that way.
She got to the top of the stairs, and the guards in front bowed to her and opened the huge doors, letting both of them in. Unfortunately, she couldn't ask them to stop Davien from entering the castle. Regardless of her feelings, he was still her parents' guest.
