章節 22: Pressurized
(A new year has finally come for everyone, including the Absolute Cult. But for the troubles the SMG4 gang faced, it's far from over. Inkopolis had created apartheid, Kirby's gone missing, & Kel's grandfather, Dave, had died. It only got worse after his funeral)
~February 11, 8:00 pm~
Nakano: Guys, have you seen my baby girl?
Lo: No, we haven't seen her since the burial.
Mario: I just hope she isn't down in the docks again.
Maya: I don't think so. She's at the bridge.
KP: Everyone get in!
~Bridge~
(Kel, stricken with grief, overlooks the night sky as she sat down on the side of the bridge. A pipe opens up behind her as the gang came out)
Kel: What are you doing here? I just want to be alone right now.
Nakano: Daughter, I know you're devastated from your loss, but we felt the same as you.
KP: Yeah, he just brought you in & made me free to pursue my transport service.
Mario: You have finally given me a new form to be comfortable on.
Lo: & you brought faith on what will come to me. If it weren't for your grandpa, none of this is possible.
Maya: So come with us. Let's face this sadness together.
Kel: (lightens up) Thanks, guys.
(As she heads off the platform, the bridge partly exploded. As soon as she knew it, Kel fell into the freezing river & drowned. For them, it's a pure shock at what had happened. From under the bridge, the animatronic watched & smiled, a job well done)
???: Excellent. Now get out before they see you.
(He then left as Mario plucked her off the water & back to the bridge)
Nakano: Daughter? Kel, do you hear me???
Mario: (listens to her heartbeat) Ok, I got good news & bad news. The good news, the shock combined with the water didn't kill her. Bad news, she's stuck in a hypothermic coma for an uncertain amount of time.
Lo: First of all, DAMN IT! Second, how did you know it?
Mario: Please, I used to be a doctor. Other than chucking pills onto viruses, I took my time doing medicine correctly, at least.
Maya: Kel...
(Eventually, Kel has been hospitalized & is given warm therapy to help defrost her. [note: Mario just didn't know it ain't gonna work] Eventually, Lo would go on giving his all throughout Splatfest practices. But at the night before the game, he went outside for some thinking. Thankfully, he isn't alone)
Meggy: Still worried about her?
Lo: You two?
Meggy: Hate to say it, but you & I think alike.
Lo: You think it's weird?
Meggy: I just want to complete my rival's promise, while also following my idol's dream. You?
Lo: I wished to have my girlfriend see us win if she bothered to wake up at all.
Meggy: You know what Gold (Lo's nickname), you're not so bad after all.
Lo: Yeah, anyways here's to Team Splatsquad.
Meggy: Yeah.
(During Day 1 on Splatfest, Team Splatsquad strived hard to make it in Round 8. Despite an early struggle with Killer Ink, Lo felt uneasy about the entire performance. One time, he caught a glimpse of Kel with 3 ghosts, though it's just an illusion. Right after the round, he told Mario & Maya there's something he'd like to show him)
~9 pm, March 1, 2020, Lo, Kel & Maya's new house (which E. Gadd provided after their apartment exploded)~
Maya: Alright Lo, it's been 9 pm. What is it that you want us to see?
Lo: I'm glad you two came here. Mario, you remembered back at Desti's funeral, you gave me a suitcase, right?
Mario: Lo, you just seriously did it, huh?
(Lo then leads them to the basement, where a chamber lies there)
Lo: Yep. After the funeral, I experimented with different formulas of resurrection. To finally bring her back, I needed a piece of DNA to the one who came back. So assuming that I got my girlfriend's hair, the project is now a success. Now stand back, as this will be intense.
(He then opens the chamber, revealing a patched-up & more mature Desti. Maya then gasps as Desti starts to open her eyes)
Desti: What in the... (looks around) Wait, this is not Ghost McDonald's.
Mario: (to Lo) Meggy's gonna be so proud.
Desti: (notices Lo) Lo, why does Mario look sexier now? & Why did you bring me back?
Lo: 1. We got a long story for you. & 2. I just want you to see us win Splatfest.
Desti: That's good to hear. But can you please give me some shut-eye? I still need some rest after being in this so-called In-Between.
Lo: Granted.
(Then she proceeds going back to sleep as Lo rewrites the coding & closes the chamber)
Maya: I can't believe you brought her back to life.
Lo: Listen, as of now, this is a secret for all of us. No one else will have to know about it, not even Meggy.
Mario: I know man. Desti seems to be too important for her. It's best to give it some time & eat some spaghetti.
Maya: That's not really... (shrugs) Fine, let's give it a shot.
Lo: I knew you understand.
~March 2, 2020, Round of 8~
(As the SplatSquad faces off in Tower Defense, Maya & Desti are busy watching at the living room)
Desti: Hey Maya, I was wondering. When I woke up, Lo told me about those adventures you all had after the war. They're mostly about them, but I still need to know about you. What is your story?
Maya: Well, it just happens so quickly. A long time ago, some company created me with the purpose to clear out the worker kind. They call me Serial Designation M Alpha. When I got shot into space to hunt down my first prey, some rift popped up & I got in, leading me to a dinky old cathedral. I was dozed out of the job, but when I woke up, a giant being told me I was special. I didn't overheat when I'm exposed to the sunlight, I can camouflage into the crowd, & didn't rely on oil to drink. Not long after, I met Zel, lived as her neighbor, & the next thing I know, I talked to you.
Desti: Do you know who he is?
Maya: I don't know. That master didn't have a name, but he seemed to have new friends.
Desti: What kind of friends???
