46.52% Wretch: Exception To The Rule / Chapter 87: Wretched Curse

章節 87: Wretched Curse

Feeling like something bad was going to happen, Superstes quickly moved a good distance away from the twitching body as it began doing much more than moving a bit.

She heard bones crack and bend as flesh ruptured as the wretch got back to its feet in the most unnatural way possible.

Blood flowed all over the monster's body as limbs from all sorts of creatures forced their way out, the four original arms rose up as if praising at the sky, before one went and fetched the still decapitated head.

It hadn't mutated like the rest of the body, the wretch grabbed her own head by the hair and placed it on her bloody neck, although, it didn't regenerate, just like all of her other wounds had showned no signs of recovery, her sliced up body was held together by nothing but foreign limbs.

Nothing regenerated but she was still able to do something once her head and put back in place for a moment, she let out a harrowing, hateful scream.

A true wave of nauseating sound washed over Superstes as she covered her ears, feeling like her skin was peeling off from simply hearing this.

Cold sweats covered the human girl's body, the body reacting as if intense terror had came over her despite her mind being left clear and free of such a thing.

An oversized rib punctured the wretch's flesh and in response, the monster grabbed it and broke it off, wielding it like a sword as she removed her head from its spot, instead holding as high up as she could, looking dead at Superstes.

There had been a bad timing on Superstes's part, the near-dead offspring of Axio had reacted strongly to something that had happened to her master, not only that, but as he was deeply unfocused on anything other than his own predicament, his influence over his constructs and other abilities faltered for just a second.

The spawners had all exploded unexpectedly, the dungeons and towers had also followed a similar fate, only that his will remained present still, not allowing any of them to go without doing their part.

The spawners unleashed an ungodly amount of power all at once, concentrating it into a single spawned creature, not per spawner, all of them converged to a single beast, an amalgamation of every animals Wretched Lord had once consumed and gained the ability to spawn.

The dungeons and towers followed a similar end, all exploding with intense power before crumbling down, each giving birth to their magnum opus, their own final bosses and guardians, without the support of their respective sources, all three of those events would end by themselves soon.

But it didn't matter, the will of Axio wasn't to usher in these beings at all, it had been simple, he had simply wished for XP, XP to evolve and heal, that was their purpose, kill and harvest experience for their master, so that he may survive his fight with Sir Solitar, not win, simply live.

As for his offspring? The concept was the same really, however, his offspring couldn't do the same as the rest, they couldn't reach into a well of power and sacrifice something.

What became of Superstes's opponent was simply due to being so close to death, yet not fully so.

This offspring would have responded to the call in her own way, fighting even more desperately, so that her master may, perhaps, acknowledge her.

With Axio's loss of focus, strong will and her being so close to the afterlife, the thing he had been keeping from occuring in this wretch did occur.

The curse all wretch were meant to fall to as they grew in power, becoming a short-lived abomination.

Axio wasn't a normal wretch, his children weren't solely because he was their progenitor and because his influence was constantly over them due to his offspring manipulation ability, the conditions for the curse to trigger in this one child of his had been unexpectedly met.

Superstes didn't waver even under the strange howl and scene before her.

'It's overflowing with life force but also burning through it every second... I don't need to strike again' she assessed, still realising that it would take a little while for it to be fully depleted but it was clear that getting close to the monster when its scream had frozen her body in irrational fear was not a good idea.

So, thinking efficiently, the heroine simply turned and took off, uncaring for her opponents last stand.

It wouldn't be so simple of course, she noticed that the monster was keeping up and even gaining on her as it ran and leaped, burning through its remaining life force even faster than before.

It seemed like she wouldn't be able to keep her distance for that long...

Cutting down the monster shouldn't be a problem but whether she or it would be the fastest was definitely one.

Thankfully enough however, she didn't have to take that risk as the beast was suddenly drenched in orange flames, sending it rolling on the ground in fright as it was far from a normal fire.

"You guys are done on your side?" asked Superstes as Lolianth and Cinla moved next to her, Feuman continuing to spray the heretical flame all over the monster and forcing it to move away whilst laughing like a madman, classic Feuman.

"No, it got much worse but we left it up to Blouvier and Mart to take care of that, that howl we heard sounded like bad news" responded Lolianth as Cinla was chanting something in hushed tone, gathering light in between her two palms.

"What is this thing anyways?" then spoke the light user as she finished her chant, shooting a beam of light that reached its target right in the cut off-head, burning a hole through it and the hand holding it.

"A wretch" just as the heroine said this, the monster lost most of its remaining life force in a single go, not from the attacks however.

It turned into grotesque mound of flesh, extending suddenly for one last attack.

Superstes shifted her weapon into a swordstaff and coated the blade with her golden energy, seemingly extending it to greater proportions as the blade now appeared to be made of pure golden energy.

'Good thing it stayed stupid' she mused as the monster once again charged right into an attack, the energy blade cleaving through the entire length of its attacking protuberance without effort.

The remains sizzled.
