章節 11: Chapter 11

-[Bonnie]-

She didn't want to believe it was possible. She'd checked through her ancestor's grimoire and while there were spells that could bring back the dead, it wasn't something that could be done with ease.

During the weeks that she'd been out of town, she'd searched for a way to bring her grams back but they either required far more power than she had or were too dark for her to consider.

The day she realized she couldn't bring her back was almost as sad as the day she saw her lifeless body lying peacefully on the bed.

She'd been out of contact with Elena since she left. She blames Damon and Stefan for her grandmother's death but she had to keep her distance from her friend. She didn't want to force Elena to choose between her and Stefan, she couldn't do that to her.

It's why she hadn't responded to any of her texts. Caroline on the other hand had no connection to the supernatural world and was supportive, texting and calling her everyday to make sure she was alright.

That said, when Elena texted her that she had a way to bring her Grams back, she'd hesitated to respond. She'd heard from Caroline that Vicki was found a few days ago and Bonnie was quite sure that Stefan staked her.

That had been the hammer on the nail for her. Yet, she was skeptical. She didn't want to give herself false hope only to be disappointed and devastated if it didn't work.

Despite that, hope sprung in her chest and she headed back to Mystic Falls. She had to see if it was true. She had to.

-[Nathan]-

The moonstone is tucked away out of reach of anyone besides me and no one else knows that I have it. That is a win in my books. With how much they get screwed over I can't exactly trust the Salvatore brothers with it or with the knowledge that I have it. They'll just go blabbing it out to Elena and I already know how that would turn out.

Still, I'm not quite satisfied with just having the moonstone. Call me paranoid but this world has a way of pulling bullshit out of its ass sometimes. For all I know, there could be another way to release the curse without the moonstone, though I doubt that.

It's been a thousand years, if there was another way, Klaus would have found it by now. Regardless, I must stay on guard for any surprises.

The sound of someone knocking on the door pulled me out of my thoughts. It doesn't take more than a minute to get to it, opening it and pausing in slight surprise.

Bonnie and Elena stood in front of my door, I could feel Stefan in the parked car outside but none of that is what truly surprised me.

Looking past the two girls in front of me, I picked eyes with Aimee who simply turned around and walked away. The two in front of me followed my line of sight to see her before turning back to see the frown on my face.

"You couldn't have just called?" I asked, taking a breath to hold in my irritation. It barely worked.

"I'm so sorry, I-" I held up a hand to stop Elena from talking, old resentments resurfacing.

That is a character, this is a person. I had to repeat this a few times in my head but I knew it wasn't working.

"What do I owe the pleasure, Elena? If I recall, this business is between me and the lovely Miss Bennett." I said, my eyes turning to meet those of the witch in training.

She had this look as if she was trying to figure me out. Those same eyes were filled with equal amounts of skepticism and hope.

"She's my friend. I'm here to support her." Elena said, regaining her composure.

"Touching, but this is witch business. I'm sure Stefan wouldn't mind you waiting with him in the car." I said, a not so subtle dismissal as I shifted away from the door, gesturing for Bonnie to enter.

After a tense moment of her looking between both of us, she stepped inside. As soon as she did, I shut the door.

"Sorry about that, I'm in a bit of a mood. The name's Nathan." I introduced, stretching my hand out which she shook.

"Bonnie, but you already knew that." She said, taking a pause for a moment before speaking again. "Is it true? Can you really bring back the dead?"

"I suppose it is. Matt's sister is back so I'd say I was pretty successful."

"How is that even possible? The amount of power you'd need to perform that kind of spell is too much without channeling the power from a celestial event." She tried to make sense of it but I could see the frustration on her face at not being able to figure it out.

Her line of questioning brought a smirk to my face.

"That's easy." I said, we were now sitting across each other on the couch. "You've learnt how to sense magic, right?"

"Put your hand out." I gently requested. As she did, I grabbed onto it with one of my own.

As soon as that happened, her eyes shot wide open with a loud gasp, quickly retracting her hand.

"H-how? That shouldn't even be possible. It's like you're made of magic." She managed to whisper in shock.

She didn't have anyone to measure my magic against and her grandmother clearly held no candle to me in terms of magical power.

"I'm not exactly made of it but I've got more than entire covens. Resurrection is a walk in the park." I boast, leaning back into the chair.

"Then why do you need the spellbook? Obviously you're a powerful witch." She asked, recovering from her shock.

I shook my head there. "I'm looking to expand my knowledge. All the magic in the world would be useless if I didn't know how to properly wield it. Otherwise I'd just be wasting it."

Facing my palm upwards, a puff of flames danced above it, flickering steadily. Her eyes shot towards my palm before flickering back to me.

Some of the skepticism seemed to leave her body. "I'm sorry if I seem worked up. It's just been rough since she died. I wasn't sure whether to believe all this or not." She said, her body relaxing just a bit.

"It's not surprising considering the company you keep." I toss in, getting a small frown from her.

"You know you didn't have to be so mean to Elena earlier. She was just trying to help." She said, in defense of her friend.

"Trying to help Damon get better." I mutter sarcastically with a roll of my eyes.

She caught my words, confusion clear on her face. "What does Damon have to do with this?" She asked.

I went to speak before my brain caught up to me in realization. "They didn't tell you, did they?"

"Tell me what?" She asked, only getting more confused.

They really kept her in the dark about Damon's condition. Between Elena and Stefan, I don't even know whose idea that was. I could almost clap my hands in amazement.

Well, isn't this interesting…
