章節 10: WHEN WILL IT BE PERFECT?
Kaylee had cried out all of her tears. Her mother's lawyer came and started speaking.
"Hello, Kaylee," Mr. Alonso said.
"Hey."
"Uhm, I am sorry."
"It's okay."
"Your mother left you a lot so you can further your education."
"Yeah, I know."
"Here is what she told me to give to you when she's gone." He handed her a sheet filled with her mom's handwriting.
"Dear Kaylee, the only reason you'd be reading this letter is because I am no more. I am so sorry I had to leave you so early. Please don't cry too much and let go of my death.
Kaylee, this must be shocking to you. I am sorry I did not let you know earlier. I was scared you would leave me, so I didn't tell you about my marriage."
Kaylee frowned at the paper. She looked at Mr. Alonso, who was avoiding her eyes. Then she heard footsteps coming towards her. She looked up. It was Allen. He must have heard about Mom.
"Hello," he uttered.
Kaylee stared at his face for a while, then her eyes dropped back to the paper.
"I am married to a man I fell in love with. He is the reason Dad left us, not because I didn't have time for him like you always say. He should be by your side now. Respect him. He is your father. Allen... Allen Christian is your father."
Kaylee closed her eyes. She thought she had read it wrong, then read it again.
"His name is Allen, Allen Christian."
Then her world went back to four years ago, when Mommy and Daddy were quarreling.
"Is it because of Allen?!" Dad yelled.
"Yes, I love Allen. I know I am wrong, but I can't control my feelings," Mom fired back.
That was why the name rang a bell. Dad and Mom often mentioned his name when they quarreled.
"Is it the same Allen standing at my side???" her head screamed.
She looked up at Allen. He blinked.
"How could Mom get married to a young guy in his early twenties?" she wondered.
She dropped her eyes back to the paper.
"Live with him, Kaylee. Stay with Allen and nobody else. Don't go back to the Martins. He and his wife are evil. Please stay with Allen. He inherited my properties, and I assure you, he will take care of you.
Goodbye, my love."
Kaylee
burst into tears. "I love you too, Mom!" she cried.
