章節 65: Pure Evil
As Elias and Lyra hurried back to Ashborne Academy, a tense silence hung between them, broken only by the sound of their footsteps echoing through the empty streets. Finally, Elias spoke, his voice filled with a mix of shame and regret.
"Lyra, I'm so sorry," he said, his eyes downcast. "I never should have let things get so out of hand back there. It's just... when I see those vampires, especially Adrian, I can't help but feel this anger rising up inside of me."
Lyra nodded, her expression softening with understanding. "I know, Elias. And believe me, I understand the anger and the pain that comes with confronting the vampires. But we can't go picking fights with every single one we come across, no matter how much they might deserve it."
Elias sighed, his shoulders slumping with the weight of his emotions. "You're right, of course. But there's something you should know about Adrian. He's not just some random vampire with a chip on his shoulder. He's evil, Lyra. Pure evil."
Lyra's eyes widened, her curiosity piqued. "What do you mean? What has he done?"
Elias hesitated for a moment, his face darkening with the memory of a terrible event. "Last year, during the Masquerade Ball, there was an incident. A human student was forcibly undergone a vampire ritual, resulting in her becoming an unstable ghoul. She couldn't attend her classes anymore, couldn't even leave her room without experiencing excruciating pain and hunger."
Lyra gasped, her hand flying to her mouth in horror. "That's terrible! But what does that have to do with Adrian?"
Elias's eyes flashed with a fierce determination. "I believe he was behind it, Lyra. Him and his vampire mafia. Doing something like that, forcibly turning a human into a ghoul... it's grounds for immediate expulsion, if not worse. But somehow, Adrian managed to cover it up, to make it all go away like it never even happened."
Lyra's mind raced, trying to process the implications of Elias's words. She thought back to the tattoo she had seen on Luciano's neck, the same one worn by the ice vampire who had attacked her parents. "Elias," she said, her voice low and urgent. "There's something I need to tell you. That tattoo on Luciano's neck... I've seen it before. It's the same one worn by the vampire who killed my parents."
Elias's eyes widened in shock, his mouth falling open in disbelief. "What? Are you sure?"
Lyra nodded, her face grim with the weight of her revelation. "I'm positive. I'll never forget that tattoo, not as long as I live."
Elias ran a hand through his hair, his mind racing with the possibilities. "There are many different vampire mafias in Nocturia," he said, his voice filled with a quiet intensity. "Each one with their own symbols, their own agendas. I'm not sure which one Luciano belongs to, but if he's connected to the vampire who attacked your family... Lyra, this could be huge."
Lyra felt a shiver run down her spine, a mix of fear and excitement coursing through her veins. She knew that confronting Adrian and his mafia would be dangerous, perhaps even deadly. But she also knew that she couldn't rest until she had uncovered the truth, until she had brought those responsible for her parents' deaths to justice.
"I need to talk to Adrian," she said, her voice filled with a quiet determination. "Alone. I need to find out what he knows about Luciano, about the tattoo... about everything."
Elias opened his mouth to protest, but Lyra cut him off with a sharp look. "I know it's risky, Elias. But I have to do this. For my parents, for that poor girl who was turned into a ghoul... for everyone who has ever suffered at the hands of the vampires. I have to try."
Elias sighed, his expression torn between worry and admiration. "Alright," he said, his voice filled with a reluctant acceptance. "But promise me you'll be careful, Lyra. Promise me you won't do anything reckless."
Lyra smiled, her eyes shining with a fierce determination. "I promise, Elias. I won't let you down."
And with that, the two young alchemists parted ways, each lost in their own thoughts and fears
