For a second, Allen was sure that the phrase "want" that fell out of Davie's mouth last night was definitely not due to spring sleepiness. The bigger his palm, the tighter his hand. Allen made an immediate decision without much thought.

David listened carefully, and there was a smile on his face, but they were both startled to hear a loud noise from the explorer and the savage not far away.

Davie frowned, feeling something was wrong, and then dropped her backpack on the ground, pulling each other closer. When Davie looks like he walked in.

I don't understand what David means, but I can intuitively see something is wrong. I wonder when I see David's less serious face.
