By the time Lin Feng arrived at the operating room, the patient had already been lying on the surgical table, and the anesthesiologist had completed the anesthesia, now controlling the breathing through the anesthesia machine.
Before coming to the operating room, Lin Feng had called a few of the younger residents in the department, asking two of them to come and assist.
Surgery can be said to be a physically demanding task, and not something that can be accomplished alone, requiring close cooperation from a team. An excellent surgeon needs several excellent assistants, otherwise, he cannot truly be called "excellent."
To say that surgery is physically demanding is no exaggeration.
A simple appendectomy or cesarean section might take just an hour or so, but if it's a complex major surgery, like a radical surgery for rectal cancer requiring the clearing of lymph nodes and so forth, the whole procedure could take five or six hours.
