"Your heartbeat, it's slow. Why?" Auriana asked Skylar. This had puzzled her for a while now, and she wanted to know why. A shifter's heartbeat shouldn't be that silent.

They were not humans, so their heartbeat was different, but still, not as silent. She could even count with one hand how many times his heart made a sound in the past two minutes since he entered and was seated.

Skylar was taken aback, but he soon regained his composure. Looked out the window and spoke in a low tone, "it has something to do with my father. He was not a shifter."

'So he is a halfbreed,' Auriana thought.

"A human, I suppose?" She asked, but he didn't respond.

Skylar didn't know what her reaction would be if he relied, so he didn't. He wanted to be honest with her but he couldn't. Right now, the only thing that he was certain he could do was to keep her safe. No matter what.
