Alleyway
___________
"N-no p-please. W-we c-can talk about t-this." Tiny pleas of a man filled the silence in the night.
But before he was cut off, as a clear gunshot pierces through the air. The frightened cries, pleas, and whimpers went completely silent. A second later, a loud thud was audible throughout the dark, musty alleyway. Smoke emerged from the tip of the gun, a Beretta M9 presumably, as it was pulled back from the aim. The holder of the gun, an unidentifiable hooded figure, sighed, before kneeling on the ground, inspecting the dark red liquid, flowing out of a hole in the victim's abdomen and pooling on the dusty ground.
Another one down.
The hooded person placed their hands on their knees as they looked at their victim on the dusty gravelly floor. His eyes were widened in shock and fear, pupils dilated. Bruises and stab marks littered his arms, legs, and face, proof of the previous torture he had endured. Next to him laid a knife, dried blood staining the sharp steel.
The person grunted in disapproval.
"What a shame." They said, though their dry voice held no emotion whatsoever, "You just had to admit that you stole the money instead of resisting. Now you bloodied my hands, dammit."
They shifted their gaze from the body to the red-soiled leather bag laying next to them. They roughly opened the zipper to find multiple items crowded inside the small space. The contents inside included stacks of money, undoubtedly stolen from the bank, a fresh pack of weed, a pistol, along with its ammo stored in a plastic bag.
The figure's eyes lingered on the plastic bag a little longer. Something was different about the bullets. Instead of being shaped like a normal round tipped bullet, it was a cylinder with a needle poking out the top. It definitely was used to inject a victim with some sort of drug. The person snatched the plastic bag containing the bullets from the bag and sniffed them.
Smells different too.
They peered at the bag again carefully, noticing that there was a small paper tucked under the money, just out of sight. The person took out the folded piece of paper, and unraveled it. They stared at it silently for a minute, while comprehending the messy handwriting that scribbled out a short message.
They smirked, their dry chuckle bouncing off the walls of the musty alleyway.
"So that's what you were doing, huh?" The person pulled a phone out of their pocket. The faint taps are heard through the silence, as the person fumbles with the phone. Then placing it on their ear, they grabbed the bag, slung it over the shoulder, and stood up.
They stared at the bloodied corpse, silently, the sounds of the wind and rustling leaves accompanying them. Finally a bit of static was heard through the phone as the receiver picked up. The person started speaking quietly with a raspy voice.
"Hey...yeah, I got the job done...got the money that was stolen, so you can return it to the bank later." The person paused for a second, the faint voice of the receiver emerging from the phone.
"Yeah, I found something pretty interesting," The person said, holding the bullets in front of their face, "I'll show you later."
"Fine if you really want to know, it's a pack of bullets….Yes, I know it's stupid, but look, it's dangerous." The person kept talking as they trudged to the street. Before exiting, the hidden person turned around, glancing at the rotting corpse once again. Mice already scurried at the chance to devour the dead skin. More and more appeared out of hiding joining the feast with their fellow mice-mates.
"Why? Well...it was made using....a human."
With that, the person turned around, resuming the trudging. But as they turned around, the moonlight flashed on the person for a split-second. And for a split-second the hood lifted, revealing a face of a woman underneath.
