章節 19: Ch. 10 Part 1
YanZhi thought of having doctor Shi help them in acquiring the shop.... so they went to Huichun shop when they got to the county, doctor Shi was at the counter and prescribing medicine for someone when they got to the shop so they had to wait.
" brother Yan it's unusual to see you again in the county when you just came yesterday.... did you need something? " doctor said in bewilderment, there had never been a time where YanZhi come to the county in a row....
" ah it's nothing like that doctor Shi, it's just my wife wanted to open a restaurant and I was thinking to ask for your help in inquiring about vacant shops on sale " YanZhi stated his worries
" then that's an easy feat... there are no vacant shops at the moment but I'll have my contacts inquire about it. How soon do you need it? " doctor Shi asked
" as soon as possible... possible in a few days time, I need the shop before the beginning of summer " Xiao Ling said politely "you can send one of your workers to come find us in big stone village when you do inquire about, we're temporary staying in an old house by the mountain " he added making doctor Shi nodded
" I'll do just that.... I'll have my contacts start inquiring for vacant shops from today itself " doctor Shi said happily as he felt YanZhi was willing to make friends with him and that was why he asked him for help.... doctor Shi felt of it as honor and was willing to do a good job in finding a good shop for YanZhi
YanZhi was going to ask for their leave but Xiao Ling beat him to it as he pointed to the herbs cabinet "doctor Shi I just saw one of your clerk prescribed white pepper for someone, might I ask if you have herbs with strong scent like it.... for instance cumin, sichun peppercorns, bay leaves, star anise, cloves, small fennel and cinnamon?" he asked excitedly making doctor Shi watched him skeptically
" yes, why does brother Ling ask? " doctor Shi frowned
" doctor Shi I need them for something... can you sell me two catties each" Xiao Ling was so excited that he didn't notice the frown on doctor Shi's face getting deeper
" brother Ling don't take medicine Indiscriminately!" doctor advised
" don't get me wrong doctor Shi, it's not for Indiscriminate consuming.... it's for something else" doctor Shi was reluctant to sell to Xiao Ling but he had to give in since YanZhi made no action to stop Xao Ling..... Xiao Ling bought two catties each of all herb spices in doctor Shi's shop before they walk out.
" what do you need those for? " YanZhi couldn't help but ask him as they walked to a shop which sells food items
" in my world they're are used as spice in cooking.... just wait till I cook for you tonight, you'll understand" Xiao Ling explained feeling optimistic making YanZhi smiled intrigued
" can't wait to taste little wife's craft which he's so determined to make for me " YanZhi teased making Xiao Ling turned bright red and flustered
" two gongzi what what do you want to buy? " the shopkeeper cupped his hands and asked politely when he send them dressed in expensive clothes
" a bag of fine rice, a bag of sugar,a bag of white flour, a bag of rice noodles, two packs of salt, a whole jar of sesame oil, a whole jar of soy sauce, a whole jar of vinegar, a bad of cornflour " the shopkeeper couldn't contain his delight as Xiao Ling mentioned the list of what he wanted to buy as if he was reciting a poem...
" this gongzi is that all? " the shopkeeper asked happily hoping Xiao Ling would add more
" yes that's all... how much will all make " he asked the shopkeeper for the price of everything he ordered
" this gongzi everything adds up to three taels " YanZhi paid him after he gave them the price, he cupped his hands pleased watching them leave with the things they bought. They walked to the entrance of the county where the bull carts are, they set at a stall which sold buns and ordered for buns to eats since it was past lunch.... they paid for the buns and added a tael of silver to their bill
" we want to leave our things here with you... we'll come back for them soon " YanZhi said to the stall owner as he watched the tael of silver in his hand... the stall owner quickly agreed even if he sold out everything he brought he wouldn't make a silver tael, but YanZhi gave him a silver tael just to watch their stuffs... of course he wouldn't let such a good thing slip away.
They walked into the fabric shop where they bought the fabrics the other day... the shopkeeper smiled when he saw them and cupped his hands
" this two gongzi and young lady you're here to buy today too? " the shopkeeper was enthusiastic
" give me three wide cotton quilts and a mattress " Xiao Ling said to him and he wrapped the quilts up nicely for them and the paid and left... they bought vegetables and bought some snacks and dimsums from a snack shop, they bought two jars of wine, a tea set, some porcelain cups, bowls and plates, kitchen knifes and things needed in a household before heading for a butcher's stall
" excuse me give me how much do do sell a catty of pork belly? " Xiao Ling asked
" sixteen cents a catty " the butcher answered
" give me two catties... and do you sell the bones? " Xiao Ling ordered
" eight cents for a catty of bones " the butcher told him
" give me two catties for the bone too " Xiao Ling said and the butcher weighed the pork belly and bones for him. Xiao Ling took the meat and gave the butcher fourty-eight cents before heading back to the stall where they left their stuffs. YanZhi called for a bull cart and which decided to take back home.... The villagers gave them envious stares as they watched the bull cart which brought YanZhi, Xiao Ling and Yue go farther into the village heading towards the mountains leaving the villagers gossiped with jealousy and envy
" it's true that the Jun family eldest son and his wife are wearing expensive clothes... look at the many things in the cart "
an elderly woman voiced out
" isn't that the young lady who was searching for grandma Shen's house?... she did say Jun family eldest son is her master, even their servant dresses in expensive clothes " the gossip went on and on while YanZhi was packing the things they bought into their home with Xiao Ling and Yue, they paid for the bull cart and watched it move before they closed the door shut.
They took the food stuffs into the kitchen and the quilts into the room before Xiao Ling started to cook with the help of Yue. He first cooked the rice, after he used the bones and one catty of the belly to cook wonton pork soup, he used half catty pork belly to make pork buns.... before he started with the vegetable dishes which were bok choy stir fry with crispy tofu, Chinese style green vegetables and smashed cucumber salad, the fragrance the dishes were giving were making Yue swallow had wishing she could taste them but she knew to control herself. By the time they was done it was around 5pm-7pm as the sky darkened, YanZhi placed the table and chairs which Xiao Ling washed earlier in the front yard.... before Xiao Ling and Yue brought out the dishes one after the other and neatly arranged them on the table. Just as the placed the last dish a soft knock sounded on the door, YanZhi went to answer the door and walked back with Xiangzhi and Chuntao trailing behind.
" fifth brother, little sister... you two are here. I was going to send Yue to call you " Xiao Ling happily said and motioned them to take their seats. Xiangzhi and Chuntao were astonished by the different dishes served on the table and the aroma coming from them making Xiangzhi and Chuntao swallowed their saliva..... YanZhi and Yue also took their seats as Xiao Ling went inside and brought out a jar of wine with wine cups before also taking his seat, they all waited for YanZhi to do the honors since he was the head in the house so he has to start before the rest can... YanZhi held his chop sticks and picked up a bun before taking a bite and savoring the taste of it which was nothing like he's ever tasted, he now understood why his little wife was enthusiastic about opening a restaurant.
