Hinata longed for his Eiji to return from war. Alone in the idyllic countryside whilst other areas of Japan were torn asunder.
One day, he receives a letter from his lover filled with the scent of sunflowers and his undying love for him, followed by official news of his presumed death at Iwo Jima. Heartbroken. Yet determined to honor his promise to Eiji; to live the life they were unable to live together.
Eiji fought honorably for Japan at Iwo Jima. He fell injured in a banzai charge to be classified as dead.
He recovered with the aid of an American lieutenant, who escorted him back into the mainland for espionage work. His one chance and hope of return to Hinata's side.
A controversial risk of a war story set at the end of WW2, 1945 within Hiroshima and Nagano, Japan. Two sides of war are shown from the individual perspectives of same-sex lovers Hinata and Eiji.
More than a boy's love. An emotional drama, revealing the hearts and souls of people surviving America's assault. Hope from the consequences suffered at war's end.

寫檢討A simply amazing and tasteful BL! Even if you've never read BL before or it may not be your favorite genre, I would definitely recommend this novel! This is a really good starter BL, something to start with dipping your toes into the BL genre. When I first started to read this book I thought that since it was a war-based novel that it was going to be super heavy and dark, and although this work is of a more serious note, it is amazing and does incredible justice to a dark time in history, while making sure the reader is aware of the circumstances and facts around this time period, amd ensuring that the reader is not overly depressed so that they stop reading the story. The key theme may be that even in the most dire of circumstances that joy and happiness can be found in the most unexpected of circumstances. I am wholly content with how this story ended, and if I had to choose a complaint it would be that this novel isn't still ongoing so I can read even more of this amazing beauty of a story! Please read! You will not regret it!
Excellent award winning writing quality. Fresh and different to the average novel here. It's a league of its own. It's idyllic to paint a picture and vivid with the action when needed. There's boys love but that's not what this novel is truly about. A shame not many are will to give this a go. Undiscovered treasure for sure
Hello dear author San, hope my review is not too late. Hehehe As I read the available chapter in your book all I can say is that your work is ”WoW” The way you write your book is really unique you even mention your Bibliography and you researched thoroughly the links and etc. To allow us your reader to really attached. Every character is well molded together with the storyline the emotion on the book is passed through to your readers. And I'm looking forward to more chapter.😊 Take care and God bless☺️
The author's writing style is really beautiful and full of imagery. The grammar is absolutely great with a wide vocabulary. There are even several references to Japanese culture and events. You can tell that the author did her research! As the story is historical fiction, it progresses slower than most of the stories I've read on Webnovel so far. Instead, the author intricately weaves the world and characters into a wonderful story as it slowly unfolds for the reader. The actions and emotions of the characters are fairly well-written. Just the first chapter will leave your heart aching for the MC. Keep doing a lovely job, Veronica!
So far (up until chapter 10), I enjoyed reading your descriptive and emotional words. I know reading to this point doesn't give me the whole novel, but everything seems like a 5 star and I have a feeling it'll continue to be a steady 5 or better. I won't rate based on how I think of you as a person because that might be a 10/5. I'm not sure if reading up to chapter 10 is enough to give a review, so I'm not reviewing what I think is the whole novel. Instead, I'll only rate the novel off of first impressions. The writing blew my mind because it's just so...comfy to read. Not too simple, not too difficult and I don't think there were any mistakes. If the first chapters have been edited, it was done well. The characters are easily distinguishable. I'm not great with names, but I do want to continue reading so I made a cheat sheet. I hope that doesn't sound insulting. I also see research has gone into the book. As I'm not familiar with Japanese phrases or terms (I only knew -san and -kun?), I learned a lot by reading. Very good stuff. Lastly, the cover. I always forget to comment on covers despite analyzing them as soon as I start reading. The cover is lovely and attractive. I just...love it. Oh, I'm a bit teary. Thank you for writing this beautiful novel and I hope to get far soon.
Up till what I have read, I'm amazed by the hard work put in by author-san. The description of the soldiers' condition, their despair, heart ache has been so clearly given, that I could feel it. Author-san succeded in jerking my heart in the first chapter. Along with the small romantic moments of the past, bittersweet memories and tears, a neko's role was shown in such a way that you can't help but feel it is important. In short, All I can say is amazing work Author-san. Sugoi! I look forward to more chapters. Update more please.
Although I don't particularly like BL. It doesn't matter to me anymore if the novel I'm reading is done like this. The reader would just cry no matter if it's a happy moment or not once they start reading the pulchritudinous words written by the author. Not to overpraise, but this feels like reading one of Paul Coelho's works... except that it's BL. Great work. Keep writing. Hopefully, you make a romance without BL (I apologize it's just that I really don't like this type of genre.)
What can I say, it's cute and fluffy, and I love myself some BL, even if I'll probably never write about it myself. The grammar is solid, no obvious or glaring issues that made my reading experience lessened, but there is definitely room for slight improvement, maybe the author can expand further and use more flavor-text to make all the "kun" stuff feel less forced. I don't know, maybe it's just a preference thing with me, but it distracts me from the story. It works in anime, because it's spoken smoothly and naturally, but in text and stories typically sama would just be replaced with sir, or master. (In English, that is.) Again, mostly preference stuff. Definitely adding this story to my Library, as it's a very well made BL-romance/Historical Fiction. It doesn't feel cheap, it doesn't feel lazy. You can absolutely tell the author put their heart and soul into everything they've written, and that they earnestly care. Well done.
Hello author! I must say , you have done a thorough research for this book. The details are amazing as well as the characters! Keep writing !!! : )
Great story with lots of emotions. I like the story is developing and also characters are well introduced. Good writing quality. Great work author.
An ambitious and complex novel that shows a lot of potential! Author selected a very original background to develop the story and she researched the fact to an astonishing degree, even mentioning bibliography. The war is presented in a veridic and respectful way and the narrative is compelling. Characters are credible and lifelike. The story develops with a nice flow and dialogue is good. Writing quality is top notch. Only flaw I could find is the lack of consistent updates. Thas what is holding back this story from getting more readers. Author, keep up the good work!
Review Swap (Valid For Chapter 33) Writing Quality: The writing quality is beautiful. I tend to judge writing quality on grammar but another factor is the language usage. That's why I'm rating you 5 stars. Your able to portray the characters emotions beautifully, leading to making the story flow better. Good usage of paragraph spacing and description too, something people tend to overlook. Story Development: Maybe I'm a bit biased. But I like Japanese written stories a lot better 😅. So for me it was much easier to follow the story development. And a war BL story 😲 not something you find often on WN. The focus of this story is more like a letter - due to the perspective change. The story is seen from both the dual main characters perspective. Character Development: From chapter 1, we get an insight to how they first met, how it all started. The different thoughts and emotions behind their meeting. Hinata and Eiji to me are very similar to each other. 🤔 People who are desperate to find a place, meaning to their lives. A meeting that lead to changing their lives. Regarding other characters, no other characters other than Hinata and Eiji really stood out to me. World Background: I like the switch in POV. In my own stories I tend to swap perspectives a lot. With your story you only switched perspective for two characters, giving me an insight into the characters thoughts and allowing me to learn more about them. Actually 🤔 it feels like it's written like a letter. 😲hhh there's a lot of references to actual Japanese events. I'm glad the author did their research 👏 Overall: A rare written BL on WN and a very well written one too, I recommend this story for people who like this genre. Will definitely keep this in my library. (╥﹏╥) sorry for the delay, your story got burried with all the other review swaps I did before I went on holiday....
Valid as of Chapter 12 I really regret picking up this book. Because of you I'm already sobbing by the first chapter. Yes, I'm a weak but author why'd you have to do that to me in the first chapter? The writing is beautiful and paints a wonderful story of how the characters feel and the environments they're in. I'm not knowledgeable enough to pass judgement on punctuation and structure, so I can't help there. Overall, as a reader, your writing only added on to my enjoyment of your story. The two male lovers featured in this novel killed me. Their relationship and dynamic with each other was so sweet, and everytime their good times were talked about, my heart would start crying bc I JUST WANT THEM TO BE HAPPY AND TOGETHER. Hinata is adorable, and I'm ready to start reading Eiji's POV. You can tell that the author takes his/her time to polish this book. Historical fictions are in my opinion, the most difficult to pull off since its built off fact. The author really gave justice to her story through the events and timeline. So hats off to you, author!
Dear author, I don't usually cry when I read or watch emotional content, but your words have made me cry. There are actual tears dripping from my eyes as I type. The way Hinata's anxiety and pain had been subtly captured really stood out. Your grammar was perfect and the story had a continuous flow. Overall, an amazing book and I will make sure to add it to my reading list.
Did someone say 'BL novel'? Well, all fujoshis and fudanshis cannot be complete without reading this novel! It plays with your feelings, making you want to cry and feel happy with the characters. I love the writing style that's filled with imagery and there are not that many grammar errors! The only problem is the stability of updates! Readers always want more of this amazing work! Keep it up, author! >3</
