章節 13: 13 Conversation with mom
When Ryan made it home he notice his mom in the kitchen cooking.
Malisa Glancing his way and ask. "what's wrong and why are you coming home late".
Ryan couldn't help but wonder what made her asked what's wrong. All she did was glance at me as i walked in. I am just going to assume it's a motherly thing.
Ryan thought to himself if he should tell her or not but decided not to. "Its nothing mom "
After the words left his mouth
his mom turned around and stared at Ryan making him feel very uncomfortable. Ryan sigh knowing the face his mom making she won't let it go.
Ryan sat down in the kitchen and began to tell her about his day.
Malisa didn't interrupt the entire time as Ryan was talking she just continue to cook. Ryan talked about everything that had happened and how he feels about it. He didn't bring up the conversation with Jessica but he is planning on asking his mom why they live in this city.
Once he was done talking she look at him and said. " Remember the feeling you feeling now. Use it like a motivation to get stronger, if you ever want things to change.
Everyone starts off weak, no one is born with power to over come every obstacle they face.
Some people may have a head start but you can always catch up."
"Today was just a wake up call for you sweetie. There still plenty of time to change." She said as she gave him a gentle smile.
Ryan didn't respond to what she said he just kept looking down fiddling with his fingers.
"Don't forget you are not alone if people want to bully you. If they are 2 ranks higher, tell your brother about it. Let see how they like it and if they have someone 2 ranks more than your brother. Tell your dad than he will handle it."
"I know you don't want to rely on us for protection all the time but we are protecting you now so you have time to get strong enough to protect yourself.
She turned around and continues to cook but didn't stop talking. "And don't feel to bad when you compare yourself with your older brother or anyone else. Everyone have there own strong suits. You better at using your brain more than others but you never compare that to anyone. Knowledge is power too.
Ryan lifted his head and gave a light smile at his mom.
"You know me and your dad was talking recently and we realized that maybe you more of a genius than you think. You always been smart and learn things fast but there only a limited of things to learn here. If you go to a place with more knowledge and better teaching you would probably truly stand out."
Ryan mom pause talking, with a complicated expression on. Seeing that she is hesitating to say something, Ryan just kept looking at her waiting. He was liking where the conversation going but now he feels like he about to hear something bad.
She turned around and looked into Ryan brown eyes. "I know you won't like what I have to say but I feel like this have to be said sooner or later. You always talking about how you are useless at things.
I even remember when I tried to get you to train with me one day. You start train for a little than stop when it got hard. You said it useless to train now when you are to weak to finish the training.
I'm bringing this up because I want you to understand that being useless is a choice. You chose to be useless when you decide to do nothing. I know you may not understand what exactly I'm trying to say.
But always keep these words in your mind every time you feel useless. "You only useless if you choose to do absolutely nothing."
Just cause you feel like something is impossible, it don't make it impossible.
You don't know everything and have every solution to a problem. Knowledge is power, the more you know, more options you will have to solve a problem."
Ryan look at his mom not sure how to respond. It would be a lie to say what she said didn't bother him. Who would want to choose to be useless.
He wanted to respond with, what would you have done if you was with Jessica. You would be just as useless as me. But Ryan didn't say that, knowing she only telling him this out of goodwill.
Ryan responded with "I will keep that in mind" but it was like she could read his mind.
"If I was in your position today and wanted to protect Jessica. I would of did exactly what you did. Delayed time without fighting him until he get his name called. Than make a plan on what to do if we encounter him again."
Ryan wanted to reply but his mom interrupted him and said. "I know what you want to say. All I have to say to that just because you didn't know what you was doing was useful doesn't make it useless.
You don't know everything to make a claim there is nothing you could do, before you attempt to do something. You are still young, there still alot to learn.
All I'm saying don't give up and do nothing when things look impossible, you won't know for sure until you try."
Ryan had a slightly confused expression thinking about what she just said."I think I understand what you trying to say. Thanks for the talk i am going to meditate in my room. "
His mom sigh and muttered to herself. "At times it hard to tell if he smart or not." As she watches him head up stairs. Knowing he didn't understand nothing she was trying to tell him.
Ryan made it to his room thinking about the conversations he had with his mom and Jessica. He thought to himself that Jessica didn't actually help with much but give me a hug for my problems.
Mom gave me advice that help me realize I never really work hard for anything and give up alot. I already realize that, and I know its not to late to catch back up. But that only applies to catching up to average people.
Ryan sighed thinking to himself who would want to be a average person. I want to be like my dad, he always speaking like he the strongest there is, super cocky at times.
He say things with so much confidence, sometimes i really feels like he might just be the strongest.
Even though I know he only a advanced mage and there many other people that stronger than him.
Im better off just trying my best not to think about these things. Definitely the part about me choosing to be useless.
If someone way stronger come to take Jessica I will be useless to do anything cause I'm weak. I don't see how i choose to be useless when I'm already useless to begin with.
There nothing I could do to stop it. Even the "knowledge is power" she said like that power would stop anyone. Ryan shakes his head pushing all the thoughts into the back of his mind and focus on cultivating his core.
