章節 1: Chapter 1: The Assassin meets the Princess

In a far-off land, a king was born after the tumultuous conflict that emerged. But unbeknownst to all, a power in the shadows operated and maneuvered in it. This is a story of betrayal, loyalty and love, the tale of two souls who rose from the darkness within the walls of shadows. We set off in a dimly lit room with a single candle casting eerie shadows on the walls.

"Are the preparations complete?" asked a voice from the darkness.

"Yes, we can now claim the empire." responded another voice, equally obscured.

"Good. It is time for a new ruler to arise."

These two figures conversed in the shadows, their faces hidden from view. Meanwhile, deep within a secluded building nestled in the heart of a dense forest, a man sat behind a grand desk.

"Hey, summon Blader. Tell him to meet me in my office." commanded the man.

Shortly after, a figure emerged from the shadows. "Did you call for me, Boss?" asked the enigmatic Blader.

"Yes, we got a job request for an assassination. I want you to handle this mission." replied the man behind the desk.

"Who are the targets?" inquired the young assassin.

"This might surprise you, but the targets are none other than the Imperial Family of the Astria Empire. Specifically, the current emperor and empress. With how things are going, I thought it would be best to decline, but you, Blader, are quite the prominent talent even though you are only 14. And lucky for you, the emperor fell ill, so he'll be an easy target. Hence, I want you to take on this mission. Understood?" explained the man.

"The Imperial Castle, huh? Well, I suppose I can't refuse now, can I?" replied Blader with a hint of resignation. "I accept the mission, sir Sirius."

"In that case, you head out in three days' time. I'm expecting results, so don't disappoint, okay?" instructed Sirius.

"No need to worry. I'll finish my preparation and finish this quickly." Assured Blader.

"Okay, do as you wish." Nodded Sirius. After that, Blader prepared his equipment and set out to accomplish his mission.

"Why do you insist on giving him these difficult missions, sir?" asked Sirius's secretary.

"Because he is a tool which is too dangerous and because of that he needs to be kept an eye on." Replied Sirius thoughtfully.

"I'm pretty sure that's what he's thinking. Well, it is quite accurate, so there's no need to think about it deeply. The Mercenary group took me in after a war that happened in my homeland, and I was trained by them to be an assassin. I kill those they order me to kill and that's it. I'm merely a tool for murder whose only options are to obey or die by the hands of the Boss. The moment I joined their ranks, there were no hope for me to turn back. All I could do was survive no matter what even if that means covering my hands with blood." He monologued while departing.

"He was only supposed to be a tool but right now he is more of a double-edged sword. And depending on who wields even I can't guarantee if he won't turn his back on us. So, the best option is to either keep him from comprehending and using the full extent of his abilities or hope that he gets killed out there. Because I'm sure that if he were to try and kill us, he would have no difficulty in doing so." Sirius added.

"We may have taken him in but he's more of a pet whom we have a leash with a collar on its neck. And at the same time, he's a tool we can use to get results more than anything. That's why using fear to keep him from going berserk is the best strategy. After all, if he can't be loyal through normal means then best to make him fearful of the possibility that we can kill him if he has no more use, don't you think?" continued Sirius.

After weeks of travel, he finally arrived at the Imperial Capital of "Dizeria".

"Better to take a room at an inn and then observe the defenses of the Castle." He muttered to himself while unpacking his equipment. "Let's get on with it."

After observing the castles defenses and guards' movements discreetly for a week he established a pattern and devised a plan.

"Tomorrow night, I'll go in for the kill." He decided while meticulously preparing his tools and weapons.

The following night, it was time to start the mission. He easily slipped through the castles defenses and infiltrated the inside of the castle. His target: the Imperial Chambers.

"If I am to trust the information I received, the Imperial Chambers should be quite close. I'll make it quick and then get outta of here." He thought to himself.

"…get out of here. I bet that's what you're thinking, right?" suddenly said a girl's voice that interrupted his thoughts.

Startled, he whirled around, but saw no one there. "Huh?" Momentarily taken aback.

"I bet that surprised you right? After all, when taken by surprise it takes time for the mind to be fully aware of its surroundings since one mostly focuses on their immediate target making it easy to approach them from their blindspot." Said the girl as she stood right next to him.

As he was about to react, "If you move, I'll scream, and everyone will come looking around after all you're an assassin, aren't you?" she said.

"Judging by your dress-up and the way you were moving around it's the only logical answer." She added.

"I guess you're here to kill his Majesty the Emperor, right? So, taking that into account I'd be more of collateral damage so if you fail because of me next time it might be harder for you to come in. What do you think?" she continued.

"Seems like I'm in a pinch, but what tells you that I won't kill you anyway?" he said.

"Simple if you strike me, I'll scream but which would be faster you're blade or me. Want to bet?" she answered.

"I've got no choice but to retreat." He thought as the girl then said the following.

"Oh! Let me present myself first, I'm the First Princess of the Astria Empire, Emilia Asteria Dugrechaff. Hence meaning that if you flee, I could report what happened tonight." While having a mischievous smile on her face as the moonlight shined upon them.

This was the start of their story, that which would stay unknown within the deepest shadows. The unexpected encounter between a skilled assassin and a spirited princess, both bound by their own secrets and duties.
