章節 12: Chapter 12: Balancing on the Web

The night air was cool, crisp against Alex's skin as he sat perched atop a ledge, his senses alive in a way they never had been before. Below, the city continued its steady rhythm: people walking, cars honking, the distant hum of life carrying on as usual. But for Alex, nothing about this was usual anymore. He was no longer just a spectator in the world of heroes. Now, with Spider-Man's powers coursing through his veins, he was part of it. And it terrified him.

He had replayed the last few hours over and over in his mind. The spin of the Silver Wheel, the moment it landed on Spider-Man, the rush of power that surged through him as his body adjusted to the new abilities. It was thrilling, yes, but also overwhelming. Every slight movement felt different now—faster, more precise. Even standing still made him hyper-aware of the world around him, as if his body was constantly primed for action.

His heart was still racing from his earlier test. Swinging from one building to another, climbing walls like they were nothing—it had been exhilarating. But now that the initial excitement was wearing off, the reality of his situation was beginning to sink in.

He wasn't just in some simulation or dream. This was real. He was in the Marvel universe, surrounded by gods, mutants, and cosmic beings, all of whom could crush him with a thought. And yet here he was, balancing on the thin line between survival and potential heroism, with only five slots for powers from the Silver Wheel. A thousand points to unlock the Platinum Wheel—an almost absurd goal—and no idea how he would get there.

He sat down on the edge of the rooftop, legs dangling over the side as he looked down at the street below. His mind wandered back to the system's notification earlier: five slots left. That meant he could gather up to six Silver Wheel characters and their abilities before he'd have to upgrade. Six powers seemed like a lot at first, but now it felt like a drop in the ocean.

Sure, Spider-Man's powers were great—strength, agility, the famous Spider-Sense—but would they be enough? Could he survive the inevitable dangers of this world with just one set of abilities?

"I can't rely on just this," he muttered to himself. "I need more… and I need to be smart about it."

He glanced at the system panel, still glowing faintly in his peripheral vision. It was both a gift and a burden, constantly reminding him of what he could gain but also of the immense challenges ahead. He needed points—a lot of points—and the only way to earn them was to interfere with the timeline of the Marvel universe. But how? How could he get involved without drawing too much attention?

The last thing he wanted was to get on the radar of people like The Ancient One, Thor, or even Iron Man. They were the big players, and they weren't idiots. If he made too much noise, they'd notice. And once they did, they'd start asking questions. Questions he wasn't ready to answer.

Alex let out a frustrated sigh, leaning back against the cool surface of the roof. His mind raced, trying to formulate a plan. He needed to accumulate points, but he also needed to stay hidden. Spider-Man's powers gave him a leg up in the world of street-level heroes, but he'd need more than just that to keep himself safe in the long run.

And what about the future? This world was full of looming catastrophes—alien invasions, apocalyptic events, even universe-ending threats. If he wasn't careful, he could easily get caught in the crossfire. The weight of that thought pressed down on him, making his chest tighten.

For a moment, he almost regretted spinning the wheel at all. What had he gotten himself into?

He stood up, pacing along the rooftop. "Alright, think. Think." He muttered to himself, trying to regain control of his spiraling thoughts. "I've got Spider-Man's powers. That's a good start. But I can't get complacent."

He needed to test his limits, push the boundaries of what he could do with these abilities. But more importantly, he needed to think ahead. The Silver Wheel had already given him a taste of what was possible, but he couldn't stop there. He needed to fill those five slots with the right combination of powers. Characters like Black Panther, Zatana, or The Gambit could round out his abilities, giving him a better chance at surviving the bigger threats.

But for now, survival wasn't about fighting world-ending battles or cosmic-level threats. It was about navigating the daily chaos of this world without making enemies out of the people who could destroy him.

"Okay, priorities," he said aloud, organizing his thoughts. "First, I need to see what I can really do with these powers. Spider-Man's abilities are more than just swinging from buildings. If I'm going to survive, I need to be able to fight, to react, and to move without hesitation."

He thought back to Peter Parker's life—the countless battles, the responsibility that came with his powers. Peter's mantra echoed in Alex's mind: "With great power comes great responsibility."

Alex shook his head. He didn't want that. He wasn't Peter Parker. He wasn't here to be a hero. He was here to survive. And if that meant using these powers to keep himself safe rather than saving everyone else, so be it.

But the truth was, Peter's powers came with a certain expectation. They were meant for protecting people, for being a hero. Could Alex really just stand by and let things happen, knowing he had the ability to stop it?

He wasn't sure.

As the night wore on, Alex felt the weight of his choices settling on him. He wasn't just some ordinary person anymore. He had powers now—real, tangible powers that could change the course of events in this world. But with that power came decisions, and those decisions had consequences.

A soft vibration in his wrist startled him. His Spider-Sense tingled faintly—a new sensation that sent a jolt through his body. He stood up, scanning the streets below. Something was happening, though it was distant. He could feel it, like a gentle tug at the edge of his awareness.

"What the…?" he whispered, unsure of how to interpret it.

His instincts told him to investigate, to swing down and see what was happening. But another part of him urged caution. This wasn't his fight, not yet. He wasn't ready to throw himself into danger, especially without a plan. Still, the Spider-Sense persisted, tugging at him like a quiet alarm.

Alex clenched his fists, feeling the strength in his muscles. This was what Peter must have felt all the time, the constant pull to act, to intervene. It wasn't something he could ignore—not anymore.

"Damn it," he muttered, crouching low as he prepared to leap off the rooftop.

He didn't want to be a hero. But maybe, just this once, he could see what this world had to offer. After all, the more he learned, the more prepared he'd be for the real dangers ahead. And if he earned some points along the way, all the better.

With a deep breath, Alex leaped into the air, feeling the rush of wind as he swung down into the city. The night was just beginning, and so was his journey.
