章節 13: Da Xue
As his curiosity grew, Tao Xue approached towards the door. As he approached it, he saw a handsome and well-built youth, about 16, standing in front of him, a smile plastered to his face. This youth was Tao Xue's older cousin, Da Xue. He opened the door, and let his cousin inside his room, who accepted the offer, almost on impulse.
Even though the room was a bit messy, Da Xue didn't mind it, and found a good place for himself to sit. He sat on a couch, which was in front of the bed, on which Tao Xue plopped himself. Tao Xue had already guessed that it was someone from his family, but he didn't expect his cousin brother, Da Xue to come here. Da Xue was one of the rare and precious talents of the family. He was just 4 years older than Tao Xue, but was far stronger. His talent was immeasurable for commoners, as he had previously reached the pinnacle of the 3rd level, and recently had got an upgrade in his strength, as he had reached the 4th level of Soul Cultivation. After reaching the 4th level, in Soul Cultivation, one can choose to learn various "Arts". These Arts have various different types, like Summoning, Rejuvenation, Monk, Demonic, and various others. Now that Da Xue had reached the 4th level, he would soon pick a certain Art.
Da Xue cleared his throat, and spoke. His tone was polite, and had a hint of cheerfulness to it.
He said, "Hello, Xiao Tao! I have journeyed here for two reasons, out of which the first is to inquire about your first day. So, how was it! You must have gotten the form in which you had to choose one out of the three types of Cultivation, which you think suits you the best. I'm very curious to know which one you have chosen. Anyway, was your first day in the Academy special, or not. Since I will be graduating from the Academy the next year, I think I'm good enough to know some good tricks or secrets that could be helpful for you. Feel free to ask me anything you want to."
Tao Xue smiled nicely, and replied, "Brother Da, I didn't have any kind of special experiences today, even though it was the first day, but I'd like some guidance from you. I want to ask you about the Secluded Elders. I got to hear about them from a teacher, but they were kind of mysterious figures, and I didn't understand anything about them, keeping in mind that there wasn't a whole lot of information about them with some of my friends, who had researched about the Academy from various sources."
Tao Xue had been bother by the mention of the Secluded Elders, who seemed to kind of tick Tao Xue off. If he were instead of them, he would openly show himself to everyone, which would give him fame. He didn't understand why someone with such a high degree of power, would choose to stay hidden inside the Academy, and be in the dark with all that was going on out there in the outside world.
Da Xue was a bit surprised after hearing his brother's question. He himself didn't know much about the Secluded Elders of the Academy. He didn't think that Tao Xue would get to know about them at the first day of his school itself. He knew that this topic was one with rather less information, and he didn't know much about it, but he still decided to share it to his cousin.
Da Xue walked out of the couch and sat on the bed, right next to Tao Xue, and said, "Xiao Tao, don't tell anyone about what I'm telling you, especially people who are from other Academies. You might have known that our 4 Seasons Academy is large enough to become a sect, but it still hasn't. Well, I have heard this information from the higher-ups , that the Academy is going to soon upgrade to being a sect, which will be a big development. At that time, there would be a lot of people willing to, and both unwilling to, consider us becoming a sect. The Secluded Elders of the Academy are a secret weapon that no one knows about, other than those of us in the Academy, and other than that, we also haven't been told much about them. There are about more than a dozen of them, and all of them are at least on a level that's one level higher than that of the Principal, and the Grand Elder. With such overwhelming power, when they all reunite, and fight together, they could overthrow the whole province, at the very least. Other than that, they are always hidden, performing secluded training, which allows them to get more chances of making breakthroughs, which is their main goal. They are basically a hidden trump card of the Academy, that no other outsiders should be known of, because if that would happen a huge and catastrophic calamity would befall all of us, and no one wants that."
The tone of Da Xue's voice was a bit solemn, this time, but not overbearing even the slightest bit. This showed that he was serious with his words. Tao Xue had always known Da Xue as a very fun-loving and cheerful person, who's alwys polite and calm, but never laid back. He hadn't expected his cousin to have such a side, too.
Da Xue could sense the weird atmosphere because of the situation, and quickly changed the topic. He was an expert at this kind of stuff. Well, that was pretty obvious, because he was the grandson of the Foreign Affairs Elder of the family, and it could surely be seen that he had that kind of thing in his blood. Dealing with people, changing the topic, changing the general mood of a huge mass of people, provoking people, practically mind-controlling people, making people agree on deals which benefit him, but not them, and all these kind of things were the specialty of someone who is associated with any kind of foreign affairs department, and this kind of power to deal with people is especially strong within those who are related with the head of that department, not to mention that this relation is a direct blood relation with a mere difference of just two generations. That was also one of his talents that was really appreciable.
Da Xue asked Tao Xue, in a calm and peaceful tone, "Okay, forget about those old Secluded Elders! Previously, I told you that I had come here for two reasons. I've already inquired about your first day at the 4 Seasons Academy, so now I'll ask you about the form that you got. I've got my interest piqued up quite a bit, about what you have filled out in that form. Please tell me about the form, okay! Now that I've inquired about the first reason, I'll come to the second one. The second reason is about me choosing my Art. As you know, I've always appreciated your reasoning skills, because the way you think isn't easy for one to figure out, and your answers, along with your explanations behind them are all very funny! I came here for you to suggest me of a particular art to learn!"
Tao Xue had seemed to recover from his initial shock, and answered his brother, "As for the form, I've filled Mind Cultivation. I've chosen it because, no matter what, it's the perfect type of Cultivation for me! Out of the two Mind Cultivators I've met at school, both of them had a friendly attitude, and by the tremendous amount of research that I've done, I've come to the conclusion that their job is just to sit up, and laze around all day, while they get paid for absolutely nothing. Less work, more benefits, that's what I yearn for! As for the other two types of Cultivations, they all have to go out and get sweaty, and always face a risk of death in battles. That kind of boring and risky job is stupid! Mind Cultivators can get all the benefits just by practically doing nothing the whole day, which is a paradise, or even heaven, for me, at least! That's why I chose Mind Cultivation."
After hearing this, Da Xue leaked out a smile from the corner of his face, and just a little later, he had started laughing wildly, which was hard enough to knock any normal person silly in less than a minute. After recovering from the laughter, he said, "Well, you've sure got some guts, there, to write this in the form. Okay, then, now tell me which Art I should choose!"
Tao Xue sat in a very elegant pose, almost as if he was posing for a photo in which he had to be some kind of intellectual genius, while he is thinking about a world changing idea. After his routine of thinking had elapsed, he turned towards his brother, and said, "I got it!"
