Alright, confused with ‘Veering into the path of the devil’? No worries. That’s what I’m here for.

Basically, it’s a martial arts concept of someone going insane from going too deeply or going off track onto well, the wrong path. Now, there are some martial arts which require one to focus and cultivate for a long time. Or actually, it would be better for me to explain it in terms of modern concepts. Let’s take meditation for example. When one seeks out the path of meditation, they’re often able to see and make light of wonderful imageries. But some people might find themselves losing themselves into the allure of those wonderful imageries and going crazy over it instead of just using it to find a peace of mind for themselves.

Does that make sense?

Or maybe it would be even better to explain using tobacco and alcohol. Substances and things like that are tools for human to consume. But when some people get addicted to a point where they cannot pull themselves out of it, the cigarettes and alcohol become the very things that are controlling these people. They themselves are no longer in control.
