As we followed the coin, there raced some thoughts through my head.
*Didn't brother just find it in the river?...Where is it leading me?...could this be a mistake?*
But I put my worries aside, choosing to trust into the coin my brother gave me.
The coin led me into an even darker part of the forest, all the while changing the symbols on itself. It changed from an arrow to a smiling demonic being, to a cat and then again back to an arrow. It continued this strange pattern, all the while staying about 1 meter before me, I wasn't able to close the distance no matter how fast I walked. If I hadn't had such good sight in the dark, and the torch I used, I wouldn't have been able to tell where I was going.
*Funnily enough, the more I walk in the night, the better my night vision gets.*
After about half an hour we reached a clearing in the forest, I saw a massive tree right in the middle of it. It was as wide as a skyscraper in my old world, and it must have been really high. Many branches split from it, all densely sprouting leaves. It left the entire clearing in the dark with only a small slit in between the branches and the rest of the forest.
*What is this tree...and more importantly, why couldn't I see this from my lookout back home?*
I guessed that this tree must have been important, and maybe covered by some sort of illusion. That alone left me intrigued, and the coin led me right up to it.
When we were right besides it, the coin stopped flowing forward and I reached it, as I grabbed the coin from the air, a thought ran trough my mind. Now I exactly knew what I needed to do. There was a small slit inside the bark of the tree and I put the coin into it. A bright glow came from it, enveloping me and leaving me blinded. After some time, as my vision came back, I saw the huge hole that had formed inside the tree. The coin floated right in the middle of the hole, waiting to be picked up and so I did.
*It led me here...maybe it helps me in my quest to grow stronger...or it just wants to kill me, so who knows...*
I chuckled a bit, but quickly stopped as I heard Fenrir's growl behind me. I turned around and saw one of the most hideous creatures I ever saw in my whole Life.
It was around 2.50 meters high, had 2 long arms, holding a club in one and some sort of staff in the other. It's entire skin was dark green, with pustules all over it's body. It wore a rugged loincloth around it's waist, and it's legs were bent forward in an unnatural way. It's upper body was naked with it's Breasts dangling down.
*I guess your female then?*
Her face was even more ugly. She had black hair hanging down to her Neck and at some parts, over her poison like Eyes. She had a long hooknose, again with pustules all over it. One of them exploded, splashing dark black liquid all around. Green gas came out of her mouth, and I could only imagine how it must've reeked. Two long fangs came out of her mouth, looking like ones from a boar. She wore a smile on her face and said:
"Prey...Prey...PREY!"
The look of confidence in her eyes left me shortly trembling.
*Compose yourself Lilith, how sad would it be if I die here...but if it happens...it happens...obviously.*
"Bring it on Hellspawn!"
I took out my bow and summoned an ice arrow in it. The creature began to run at me, first slow and then getting faster and faster. I took my first shot at it, but she jumped over it and right before me smashing her club in my direction. I held out my bow to block it but the force of the impact sent me flying through the air, crashing into the tree and crying out a scream of pain.
*Fuck, she is strong*
Fenrir jumped at her, sinking his teeth in her left leg, leaking this black liquid out of the wound.
"Fenrir get back!"
Hearing my command he let go of the creature and jumped back at my side. I sensed something through my connection with Fenrir.
*He has a burning pain inside of him...oh no...poison!*
But it was to late, Fenrir began to breath heavily, trying to spit out what he had just swallowed only to collapse right after.
*Fuck fuck fuck...*
Panic spread through me, as I felt an all familiar feeling. The fear of losing even Fenrir left me frozen.
*I need to do something...but what...what can I do...not again*
The creature began spinning it's staff, and I felt the Mana forming around it. I needed a way out, but it stood between me and the forest, with the large tree in my back. With this my only way would be inside the tree, but in there I would be cornered to.
Then a mist came towards me. It came out of the staff the creature had spun around. The mist was dark green and I knew what it would do, so I made up my mind, took Fenrir, and dragged him inside of the tree.
I dragged him farther and farther in, without ever looking back. Then I was again enveloped by a bright light, but this time it transported me somewhere.
When I was able to see again, I stood in some sort of tomb. I was surrounded by stone walls, and a large sarcophagus stood in the middle of this room. Behind it was a large statue of a demon.
But there was no time to closer examine it. I quickly took some Golden Tears out of my backpack and force fed it to Fenrir.
*This won't safe him, but it will buy me some time.*
Then I gathered Mana in my mouth and bit Fenrir, starting to pump it straight into his veins. This was an uncommon healing technique, that required huge amounts of Mana, and the chance that it would cure poison was rather slim, but combined with a Golden Tear and continued Mana feeding, Fenrir could be able to overcome it, speeding up his body's own healing process.
I don't know how long I sat there, feeding Fenrir more and more Mana. But after some time I lost conscience.
