Kira couldn't be sure whether the child believed her, but she hoped he did. She didn't want him thinking that she was helping him out of any ulterior motive, especially not to use him as a plaything. It made sense now why the child was so hesitant to reveal anything about himself—he was afraid.

Her mood had soured considerably since she first entered the room. She watched the food on the table slowly disappear one by one, and for a child still so young, he certainly ate a lot. Kira couldn't help but feel a twinge of pity. Eventually, she knew she had to leave. She had stayed too long as it was, and if Mr. Ying realized she was missing, he'd surely send someone to search for her.
