章節 26: About Revenge
<Jace's Point of View>
I nearly died of boredom in the conference room attended by various of my father's business friends. I leaned back in my chair, listening to Trey Turner chatter about rising inflation. Talking about business is complicated. I was never interested in the business world. Unfortunately, I was watched by Jeff who was sitting in the chair opposite me. This time he was watching my movements, telling me to obey my father's orders to learn how to run a company, and so on. It's a shame to be the first boy. If only my sister had been willing to go into business, I wouldn't have suffered this much.
Luckily the meeting was over after almost two hours of cursing Jeff for constantly watching me to stay focused. I stomped out of the meeting room in a huff, ignoring Jeff's calls behind me, or the greetings of the people in the office. Someone tapped me on the shoulder so hard I stopped and turned around.
"What?" I asked cynically.
Jeff put his hands in his pants pockets. "Do you want to have lunch with me?"
"It's late," I corrected.
"You haven't even eaten lunch yet."
I smiled lopsidedly. "No. I have an appointment with someone."
Hearing the word promise and someone, Jeff's eyebrows rose like a question mark. "Tamara?"
"No. Cleopatra Cavern, the murderer's youngest daughter."
"So you've started doing missions, huh?" He laughed softly as he patted my shoulder a few times. "Be careful, you could fall in love with her."
Falling in love with the son of a murderer of my grandfather? Haha. No. Although I admit that Cleopatra is attractive and it would be a shame to make her a target for assassination. I could have chosen Elsie to kill. But, I chose Thomas' favorite child, yup, it's Cleo. She's indeed his favorite child. Elsie wasn't the right person. If she died, it wouldn't invite Thomas' attention and hurt his feelings.
"I would never fall in love with Thomas Cavern's daughters," I insisted.
"Daughters?" Jeff repeated. He grinned. "If you don't fall in love with Cleopatra, I think you'll be attracted to her twin sister." And he tapped my shoulder again.
I shook his hand roughly. Jeff always teases a corner of my mind to kill him. Both Joseph and Jeff, they both kept me peace of mind. Siblings are the same.
"I don't have time for your bullshit." I stomped my feet away from Jeff who was snickering softly.
Halfway through, I called Cleopatra's number, asking her to accompany me to lunch. On the fourth ring, she picked up the call. Her soft and melodious voice tickled my ears.
"Do you want to eat with me?" I asked.
"Hmm… okay. Where?"
"K Town Bistro. You must like their cooking."
"Okay. See ya."
Just a few steps. Spread terror on Thomas, hurt his feelings to see his beloved daughter die in my hands, kill him slowly, more painfully, mercilessly. That's what I want. And the only reason I followed Joseph's orders was that I loved my grandfather.
