When I was little, snow fascinated me, it can be made into anything you want, but when you think about it it's nothing special. First, it has to fall in order to peacefully stand until it shyly melts only to fall once more. It never ends. Until spring comes.
Now the white powder crunched beneath my boots, trees surrounded me and I held a blue scarf in my right hand. You could see my breath permeate the air in a white cloud until I left it behind. A fire spread down my lower body, but I could not stop, not yet. Not until my body failed. My shoulder bashed into a tree, I spun around and skidded down before pushing back up with my hands.
I finally reached a forest clearing and fell onto the cold ground. I curled up and my tears dyed the snow grey, my breathing sped up and my brain finally caught up with what had happened. I had only been going off my flight response up until then.
I left them. My brother and sister. Alone with Luna. My eyes close.
Bang! A deafening noise shot me awake and by the time I was sitting up straight in my bed it was silent again, I was almost sure that it wasn't real when, Bang! A second one blared off coupled with the two shrill screams of my brother and sister from the room across. I was frozen for a moment, then I went to my door and creaked it open with unrest and anticipation, like just before the drop of a rollercoaster.
I slowly creaked open the door to see our Android, Luna, holding a handgun aimed into Damien and Skyler's room. Her head snapped my way, blood covering almost everything but her eyes, more blood then a single person can have. Then she frowned and her eyes flickered and widened. I sprinted down the stairs almost instinctually, but at the bottom, something worse faced me. Both of my parents lay on the floor.
I took a step back and my mouth fell open slightly, tears stared to weight down on my head.
I didn't hesitate in what I did next, shoving open the front door in one swift movement and pulling my mom's dark blue scarf off the hook. I don't know why I took the scarf.
I disappeared off into the snow. We treated Luna like family, even if others didn't treat their androids like it, I don't know how she could have done this. I thought of calling the police, but I had no phone. A million other things that I could do raced through my head, but, I didn't act on them, I just didn't want to die. It was cowardice to leave my brother and sister like that, but, I couldn't help it. Everything felt cold, but that is just the downside to snow. I could not get up now now that I had fallen down.
"Are you okay?" I opened my eyes for a brief moment to see the silhouette of a woman staring down at me. Then my eyelids fell heavy, my heavy breathing stopped, and my grip on the scarf loosened.
