章節 2: Leo and Len

The next morning, at Moon Shadow Academy.

Two young men were sitting across from each other in the headmaster's office. They looked similar, but there were obvious differences between them. They both wore suits, but the way they wore them was completely different.

The first man had messy brown hair, his tie untied, his shirt untucked, and was leaning back lazily in his chair. He looked like he had a wild appearance, but at the same time he looked quite strong.

The other man, on the other hand, had perfectly combed brown hair, his tie neatly tied around his collar, his shirt tucked, and not an inch of the fabric was wrinkled. He also had glasses. However, his neat and tidy appearance could not hide the sad look in his blue eyes.

The man with the messy appearance was Leo, and the man who looked neat was Len.

Len spoke with a flat, monotone voice, as if all life has already been drained from him. "Why did you call me here today?" He asked. There was no impatience in his voice, nor any curiosity. His voice was bland.

Leo, however, was actually very excited. It was possible to hear it in his voice. "We have a special transfer student coming to Moon Shadow." He paused after saying that as if he was expecting Len to say something, but Len remained silent, and merely gestured for him to keep speaking.

But Leo did not continue speaking. He remained silent for Len to speak.

Finally, Len responded in a bland tone, "a new transfer student... what does that have to do with me..."

He did not say it as a question. It was as if it was a statement, an obvious statement, but Leo instantly refuted that statement.

"It has everything to do with you, Phil! The new student is friends with the moon. Just like Selena!"

Len stood up immediately. "How is that possible! How is it possible for anyone to be like Selena! And... I don't go by that name anymore! I go by Len, not Phil!"

Leo frowned when he heard this, even though already he heard it many times. "Okay! Okay... Len. I know that Selena is gone, and you really miss her, but think... wouldn't she want you to be happy? Even as a ghost she's not getting the proper rest, all because you never let go of her. You even changed your name to be a part of her hers."

Len looked away from Leo, and tried to ignore him. He knew he was right, but Len never would admit that.

Leo continued, "come on, Len! Stop ignoring me! Maybe this new student will bring you a new opportunity. Her abilities are bound to be similar to Selena's. You need to forget Selena already... it's been over three hundred years since her death."

"Why..." Len finally spoke, although quietly, "why did Selena have to die... why couldn't it have been me instead... I have no more reason to live anymore..."

Len began walking out of the room on his own, but Leo grabbed his arm and said, "you must continue living! That was Selena's final wish, remember. Her final words were 'Live, Phil! You must continue living! You must...'"

"You're right," said Len, "and those very words are the only reason I am still living this dreadful life."

"You say that you are still living, but where is your life! You act like a walking corpse all the time! I think Selena wanted you to actually live, not be a corpse!"

Len stopped arguing and instead said, "let go of my arm, Leo."

Leo let go, and Len started towards the door.

"At least wait until you meet the new student!" Leo pleaded, But Len did not listen.

Len turned around just as he reached the door. "There is no reason for me to meet her. I have no obligation to stay." Then he walked out the door, and the door slammed behind him.

After Len left, Leo glances at the door and muttered to himself, "Phil, why do you do this to yourself? Why do you make yourself suffer? Selena would've hated to see you like this."

Then Leo went back to his seat and tidied up his appearance. After all, he did want to leave a good impression on the new student and her parents.

Then Leo looked back at the files on the new student. "Huh... Lyra's her name..." then he pulled out a picture of Lyra from the file, and jumped up in surprise. "She- She looks just like Selena!" He started at the file for a few moments longer, and then placed it down on the table in front of him with the picture on top.

"Now the real question is... is this a coincidence, or is this something else?"
