章節 24: Preparations For

A disappointed and dejected sigh escaped from Casimir's lips. He didn't gain anything except ether from the core. He looked at his glyph and much to his surprise the core alone provided him with a lot more ether than he anticipated. He was shocked at the sheer amount the single core contained.

Name: Casimir Nagid

Fable: Gedeon's Last Prince

Aura: [Destroyer]

Soul Core rank: I

Origin [Primus]: Arcadia's ruin

Abilities: [Hearth of desolation]

Artifacts: [Iron maiden][Gedeon's ichor][Tranquility][Gedeon's tome][Cestane Spear][Brilliant crescent]

Heritage: none

Ether: [188/1000]

It was the equivalent of absorbing five of the ether crystals he had received from the military armoury. That was only a monster, it was only second rank! But that also begged the question, was it because he was still a tier one? Would weaker cores give him less ether than cores of a higher rank than his? He didn't ponder too much about it, he could just ask one of his officers. The core was now gone having been absorbed and Casimir was done with his consolidation. Now he could focus his attention on the upcoming assignment.

'Right, I can ask Oscar to get our group's stuff from the armoury.'

He silently looked at his communication device, deliberating on whether to call that overzealous acquaintance of his or spare himself the trouble of having to accept a spar in exchange for collecting their equipment at the armoury. His device buzzed while he was in the middle of brainstorming and it was Oliver who was trying to get a hold of him which was strange because Oliver usually just texted if there was an issue he needed to resolve with Casimir. Casimir accepted the call.

"Hello."

"Hey Cass thanks for picking up, I need some help."

When Casimir didn't answer Oliver took it as an invitation to present his request.

"So the field assignment requires we register our what our abilities do so as to organize much better reports for our commanding officers"

"Oh? You're collecting our equipment? Didn't they ask us that during the interview when we woke up?"

"Yes I am, and that's what I said but they said as awakened you tend to misunderstand the use and applications of your abilities and your origin early on so they do an update like they are now… I already asked the other two."

"I see… okay it is offensive"

"Okay… on a scale of one to ten flexibility?"

"Three or Four maybe it's just fire"

"Okay, I think that's al- wait hold on Cas… okay how about its flexibility with your fighting style?"

Casimir didn't answer immediately. He wondered whether he should lie, it would potentially put others in danger if he wasn't honest with these questions, after all, they would be used by the officers to create a more suitable and sustainable approach to the subjugation.

"Maybe a four, it's fire all it does is burn for the most part it's hard to imagine it getting easily incorporated into the style we've been learning."

"Okay that's alright, we'll meet with the others in the evening and ill give you guys your stuff."

"Okay ill let the others know."

"No need I already did."

"Oh okay, thanks Oliver bye."

"Alright later."

The call ended and that was one problem that solved itself for Casimir. That didn't happen often but he was glad it did this time. It's not like he had much he wanted to do but he didn't want to keep discouraging Oscar ahead of their campaign. He was a good fighter and losing confidence just before something this dangerous was not good for him or his companions. He decided he would go and train alone. Since it was their first field assignment, they had been given the next three days off to get ready and rest and they would receive a briefing the day before.

He made his way to the training hall and found an empty training cubicle in the singles section. He could have gone to the library but he felt he was on the verge of a breakthrough with the Dance of Deidamia's first form so he thought it would be a good idea to try and push to see if anything would come of it.

He closed the cubicle door behind him and approached the centre of the room and stood there unmoving. He assumed the initial stance of the first form and held his imaginary sword. He began with a single downward slash, the imaginary sword chaotic in both natures, random and uncoordinated. The dance began slowly, but picked up speed, becoming faster and faster, until the young man is a blur of motion. With several flicks of the wrist, the sword waved like branches and leaves, clouds and birds. He cartwheeled and arced and toed his way through the air, high and low, growing bolder and brighter until Casimir was encircled by some kind of radiant martial aura, a faint halo that was incandescent.

He could feel it but he couldn't pinpoint what exactly he was supposed to be feeling, it was right under his nose and this window of comprehension would not last long. He needed to think much faster. But he couldn't, he was at his wit's end and there was only so much he could do when present with the challenge of comprehending something so marvellous and complex. Regrettably, the moment passed and the window for enlightenment shut and with a final vertical swing Casimir concluded the dance. It never failed to impress him. Unfortunately, that's all he could manage now, he wouldn't do the dance for a while to avoid attention. It would take an absolute monster to recognize that it was a sword dance and not just him frolicking about and passing time but wasn't going to take his chances. With a sigh, he picked up the wooden spear he placed at the door when he entered. He decided to train with the spear for the rest of the remaining time.
