82.75% The Lizard's Ascent / Chapter 24: Rejection

章節 24: Rejection

Sitting in the circular nest, Cecilia looked up at Sethe standing in front of her, smiled, and gently patted the space beside her.

With a slight shake of his head, Sethe lay down on the floor.

He could feel Cecilia's tenderness and meticulous care.

But all of this was based on her treating him as a monster cub.

Cecilia must have thought so.

But he couldn't control himself; the closer he got to Cecilia, the more uncontrollable his thoughts became.

Although he had transformed into a lizard, his aesthetic sense hadn't changed.

A feeling of disgust and self-loathing welled up in his heart.

He had been a bit too despicable before, taking advantage of Cecilia without her knowledge, and acting like a villain.

Lying down with his back to the nest, he rested his head on his two front paws.

He should keep a safe distance from her in the future.

With that in mind, Sethe slowly closed his eyes, it was time to sleep.

Rest up and prepare for the educational torment that awaited him tomorrow.

Learning the language of this world was quite difficult.

Watching the red figure lying with his back to him, the girl sitting on the nest tilted her head slightly.

Was Sethe trying to distance himself from her?

Why?

She stared quietly at the red figure for a long time, her deep blue eyes still filled with doubt.

*Sigh~*

A faint snoring sound came from Sethe.

Listening to Sethe's soft snoring, Cecilia also slowly lay down in the nest, burying her face in it.

Sethe always had a unique elemental fire scent, reminiscent of a certain orange fruit.

Like the fragrance emitted from orange peel.

But there was no such smell in the nest.

Turning over and lying on her side, she looked at the red figure facing away from her.

Why didn't Sethe sleep in the nest she had prepared for him? Did he not like this soft nest?

There were many characteristics of monsters, and some monsters didn't like these softer nests.

Next time, she would bring Sethe a harder nest.

With this last thought, Cecilia also slowly closed her eyes.

After all, tomorrow she would have to teach Sethe the common language.

The next day.

A fiery red lizard and a blue-haired girl sat side by side on a pier.

"This word is 'departure'."

The girl's fair fingers pointed quietly to the book floating in the air.

"Ang~"

Sethe quickly responded, silently noting Cecilia's pronunciation.

Perhaps it was because of the reinforcement three times over, this time he felt that Cecilia's teaching was very easy to remember, basically only needing one repetition to remember.

"Sethe remembers."

"Ang~"

"Remembered?"

The girl's eyes were filled with undisguised doubt.

Last time, she had to repeat each word at least five or six times before Sethe could remember them, looking foolish. But today, no matter what word she taught, Sethe only needed one repetition to remember.

Seeing the doubt in her deep blue eyes, Sethe nodded heavily once again.

He didn't know what was going on, but he felt that learning these things today was particularly easy to remember.

This might be related to his reinforcement.

Without blindly doubting, Cecilia showed a gentle smile on her face.

"Alright, let's review."

"Sethe, use the words you just learned to write a passage."

As she spoke, Cecilia raised her hand, and a soft blue light appeared on the space ring worn on her slender finger. The next moment, a piece of paper and a quill appeared in her slowly opening palm.

Passing the paper and quill to Sethe.

Looking at the quill passed to him, Sethe lowered his head in confusion, staring blankly at his claws. His plump paws were covered with particularly sharp claws, which didn't look like they could hold a quill to write.

"Huh?"

"Pfft~"

Seeing Sethe's dumbfounded look and staring at him, Cecilia couldn't help but laugh.

But she laughed very gracefully, with a light and charming smile.

Feeling ridiculed, Sethe waved his paw impatiently.

"Okay, don't be angry, this paper and quill are magical props. As long as you infuse them with magic, you can control the quill to write on the paper."

"Huh?!"

Sethe suddenly felt a bright light in front of him. Even though he had transformed into a lizard, he had accepted it, but deep down, he still maintained a longing, a longing for communication.

Although it was using pen and paper, it was still communication.

He reached out his paw and took the paper.

Following Cecilia's instructions, he manipulated the flow of magic within him.

A few sparks of fire gathered in the air, eventually forming a one-meter-long fiery red thread.

The fiery red magical thread merged into the feather the moment it touched it.

Soon, as the last segment of the magical thread entered the quill, Sethe felt a new connection between himself and the quill.

At that moment, the quill seemed to become a part of his body.

He spread out his claw.

Following the sensation, he tentatively manipulated the quill, and it slowly floated up from his paw.

With a gentle stroke on the white paper, a word was written: "Today, Cecilia and I sat on the wooden bridge to study."

The first two words were a bit crooked, but as Sethe continued, his writing became smoother and more fluent.

By the end, Sethe's writing could only be described as flowing like water.

Watching Sethe write, Cecilia's expression changed from surprise to amazement.

It wasn't just the abnormality in his transformation; Sethe's intelligence had also significantly increased.

Was this whole situation good or bad?

She wasn't sure.

She had seen some monsters briefly exhibit strong potential, but those monsters without exception had traded their potential for their lives.

It seemed that she needed to find a way to take Sethe to the Contract Workers' Union for an appraisal of his specific values.

But there was a problem now: Sethe was very exclusive when it came to the Wisdom Race; this was almost certain.

She recalled the reaction of the orc adventure team from last night.

Although he had acted very fiercely, Sethe was very scared. This could be understood from his straight tail; when he was relaxed, his tail was droopy, and when he was happy, it would sway from side to side.

If she hadn't been there, Sethe would have run away without hesitation.

If it had been a human race...

As the last stroke fell, the quill floated up again and landed back on the red, spread-out paw.

Holding the completed writing, Sethe handed it to Cecilia.

Looking at Sethe's expectant eyes, Cecilia gently placed her hand on his round red head.

"Sethe, you did a great job."

"Ang~"

Although it was just a simple praise, her heart felt warm, as if it had been filled with something.
