20% The joker and the Queen / Chapter 3: Too young to be queen

章節 3: Too young to be queen

Reina sat on a bench in the courtyard, reading a book, she looked up and saw Lydia approaching her, quickly shutting the book and hiding it behind her. Lydia gave her a questioning look.

"My lady? What were you Reading?"

"Nothing." She lied.

"Let me see" Lydia reached behind Reina and took the book. her eyes widened, a small gasp escaping her mouth "My lady!" her voice in a whisper "You're not to be reading such explicit things!"

"Says who?" Reina rolled her eyes huffing "I'm old enough to do so, plus I found it "hidden" in the kitchen".

Lydia face palmed herself "One of the maids must have left it there by accident. I'll just take it away"

Reina became aggressive "No, give it back!"

"My lady listen to me, this won't get you any closer to that man," Lydia said, knowing fully well why the princess has suddenly picked interest in such things.

"I'm not reading it because of him Lydia, Give it back this minute!" she yelled in her not-so-calm voice

"Yes, you are, I've known you your whole life, I can tell when you tell lies, so don't lie to me. And I'm sorry my lady but I can't give it back"

Reina got up from the bench and stormed off, going back in only to bump into someone, that someone been Ares.

"Watch where you're going!!" she exclaimed and then froze after seeing who the person was. He bowed in courtesy.

"Pardon me your Highness" He apologized

Stuttering and feeling her throat dry, she managed to keep a straight face "That's okay." she said clearing her throat "How's your arm"

"It healed now" He said

Nodding frantically at a loss for words, internally wondering why she can't just walk away, praying the ground would split open for her to enter, she was palm sweating again. Focus Reina!

"My lady?" Lydia came soon as she noticed Reina's frozen back "You should go have your dinner" she said. Reina thanked her heavens for Lydia. Excusing herself she walked away.

Lydia was about to follow suit, but Ares stopped her "Can I ask a question about the princess?" He started, looking back to make sure no one was listening or was to make sure the princess herself was gone.

"What kind of question?" Lydia raised a brow, for some reason, her gut doesn't like this man that the princess is head over heels for.

"How old is she?"

Surprised by the stupid and random question "How does that concern you?" she asked imagining his audacity of him.

Ares stared at Lydia for a moment before continuing "She looks too young to be the next queen"

Rolling her eyes "If you have nothing better to say, excuse me" She walked away. Too young to be queen? what does that even mean?

Normally on a morning, the sun would be shining with birds chirping, but this morning the sky was dark, covered in gloomy clouds, rumbling thunder, and it was about to rain.

Reina walked about in her floral dress after breakfast, looking for her father, she found him in a meeting in one of the halls, so she stood by the doors trying to get his attention

Zeus noticed a figure standing, the figure had been his daughter, and he called her in. Reina greeted each and every one of them there until she got to her father and lowered herself to his ear. She wanted to ask if she could go see the prisoner. He obviously wanted to refuse but knowing his daughter she won't leave until he says 'yes'

"Take a guard with you" He said loudly just as she walks away.

Reina walked out looking for a guard. Her guard, Ares. When she found him by the apple trees, his head resting on his elbow which was placed on one of his knees, while the other was straight on the ground. She thought he was sleeping so she slowly walked towards him. But he wasn't. She stood there gawking till Ares raised his head, he knew someone was standing there but didn't know it was her. Two unaware humans!

He swiftly got up "Your Highness, you're here."

Snapping out of her dazed state, she stared at his toned muscles and face, how can a man be beautiful? Shaking her head internally "Yes, I'll need you to escort me to the dungeons" she said and turned away from him. It felt as if he was staring right into her soul. He wasn't. Her ears turned red.

Ares was confused as to why she'd want to go there, he approached her "You Highness, pardon my question, but why would you want to go there?"

"I want to pay him a visit" She simply said and walked ahead. Ares kept shut and followed, not too far from her and not too close either. Reaching the entrance to the dungeon, he grabbed a torch lamp, though the walls were lit with dim fire. It was quiet and filled with the stench of blood and rusty metals. Reina was loathing the smell, it made her stomach churn, but she held it in.

"Welcome princess" The voice echoed, it was deep and hoarse. Silas heard footsteps and perceived a new scent, making him recognize who it was that was walking in.

"you look dishevelled and wrecked," She said, the disgust showing on her face

"Well, I'm sorry my lady, I should have taken my bath and dressed up if I'd known you were coming" Silas' sarcastic voice echoed as he chuckled.

Reina walked closer to the bars. "Your Highness" Ares tried to stop her, but she only raised her hand to show it was okay.

Scoffing at him "Trust me, Silas, no matter how many times you bathe, you'll always be the dirtbag that you and stinky and ugly!" Daring him with her words and tone, he tried pulling on the chains holding his hands, tugging on them, it hurt as hell, each and every time he forces the chains, the sedatives were switched to just arrows hitting his back, making him groan loudly, gritting his teeth.

Ares reached out to move her away from the bars, she took a couple of steps back. "If my father doesn't kill you... these will, and it's not a good look on you" She smirked. Reina turned away from him to head out, she heard him scream

"Just you wait princess, I'll deal with you and your scrummy father!" His voice turned into whispers as she reached outside with Ares right behind her.

"Your Highness?" Ares called out, and when Reina turned, he continues "How do you know his name?" He asked because he was sure she wasn't there when May came and he is well aware that this was her first time seeing the man after that incident.

"I've heard his majesty mention it. A problem?" she asked tilting her head to the side. He shook his head, and she walked away from him going into the courtyard when she heard noises and horses outside. Picking up her pace she went and saw the Duke's family-entire household- pulling up and going in one after the other, then she saw him, the so-called prince charming. Gael Donald and his brothers, Waylen and Rowan.

What are they doing here on a cloudy afternoon?!.
