One of my clones—Number Three, to be precise—had a run-in with Plink. He seemed to think today was his big chance to take me down. "Ha! Ride, this is the end for you!" he sneered, with the usual cockiness of a mid-level thug about to make a major mistake. "Instructor, now!"

Just as Plink's smirk hit its peak, one of his own mercenary companions shook his head. "You're an idiot," he muttered to Plink. "This guy—he's the one they warned us about at the guild. Don't mess with him. He's the same one who wiped out that cult."

The assassins' guild had a truly expansive information network; I'd give them that. News from Tuffin territory had reached them, and though I hadn't expected them to discover it so soon, here we were. Of course, if the guild knew, then likely the king's court was also aware of what happened. It was all just… tiresome.

"What should I do?" I asked, feigning uncertainty for Plink's benefit.
