In the dimming light of the late afternoon, Xu Zeng and Xu Hu Zhe found themselves seated beside the water barrel, their expressions mirroring a whirlwind of conflicting emotions.
As Xu Zeng's gaze fell on Xu Hu Zhe, his features contorted in a mix of shock and uncertainty. Was it confusion or anger that etched lines across his brow? It was difficult to determine in the midst of the swirling ups and downs of his thoughts.
Similarly, Xu Hu Zhe found himself taken aback by the intensity of Xu Zeng's reaction. Had he struck a nerve? Was Xu Zeng repulsed, or was it something else entirely?
Xu Hu Zhe was a slave, or at least he had been one. They were also both men. The fact that they both missed Xu Feng was troubling, but their reactions and recent actions made no sense.
