Almost home. We made one last stop a few hours outside the city because I knew she had to be beat, though she wasn’t complaining. She was still on a high from the concert and having her friend on the last leg of the trip, which was good because my mind was still a bit preoccupied with everything that was going on.

It was only when we were in the hotel room at the end of the night that I noticed she was being a bit skittish. It was such a drastic change from earlier in the day that it gave me pause. “Something on your mind, Silla?” She opened and closed her mouth twice before making up her mind.

“What if your Mom doesn’t like me?” Of all the things I expected her to say, that was not it. We hadn’t spoken much about Mom because I just took it for granted that the two most important women in my life would hit it off. I mean, I saw no reason for them not to.

“What makes you think that she wouldn’t like you?”

“I don’t know, I just… I’m not like Nikki or Emma.”
