章節 112: Crossroads

Following the death of the demon, we set about cleaning up the battlefield. Soltair and Trithe collected the corpses of the dead bandits before stacking them in a pile. The Sun Hero made sure to check each of their pockets first, going on about "looting is the victor's reward," or something of the sort. Fyren regained consciousness several minutes later, looking about in a daze until his gaze locked on to me.

"What happened?" he asked slowly.

I sighed, looking around the clearing. "We won. Barely. A sixth-level demon was far too strong for us."

He looked down at his shredded armor, feeling at the soft, new skin on his chest. "It seems I owe you a debt. I must say, I thought I was-wait, did you say sixth? I was certain it had grown beyond that and reached-"

"Sixth," I pled desperately. "Please."

Hello! I've begun defining terminology a bit more, something I should have done at the beginning. I'll give you a quick run down moving forward.

Level: refers to a person's soul. It correlates closely with the power of spells and techniques the person is capable of casting. Only unique abilities, like the Eyes of Fate, allow one to see a soul's level.

Magical Technique: Individuals can use their mana to perform magical techniques. They lack the diversity of spells but make up for it in simplicity and power. Essentially, a warrior forcibly injects their mana into their arm, or weapon, creating some effect. Fyren and Trithe primarily use magical techniques. Soltair mainly relies on them as well but occasionally uses high-circle spells for their AoE or potency.

Spells: Not too much to explain here, but I'll reiterate something I discussed in a chapter. Mages use magic circles to direct the flow of their mana and cast spells. But magic circles appear naturally anytime magical effects are taking place. So if you cast a fireball spell, you create magic circles to activate the magic, then a magic circle appears to actually summon the fire. The two work together, but are separate, which is important when it comes to Soul Casting and mage interactions, like Dispel magic.
