He came closer. The tip of his nose brushing hers. His fangs gently pinching a red upper lip. "I could always find some excuse and bite you."

Askeladd stared at her and his gaze was that of someone waiting to be coldly rejected. The same kind who in the past filled her eyes when the adults and other children of the Village rejected her.

Her heart ached; she never expected to be the cause of putting 'that expression' on someone else's face.

"You are not being cold to me."

The wolf's eyebrows furrowed and looking confused, he asked. "Wasn't there someone crying and complaining because she didn't like it when I was cold?"

"I don't cry." She pouted. what the hell? Was she really pouting? Hell would freeze over, as her master would say.
