Seeing Roberto's headless body lying twitching before him, David stood there with complicated emotions. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Roberto was his friend once, and in a way, was almost like a brother to him. But the fact of that matter was that he betrayed him, and that betrayal led to his death.
If it weren't for Elena, David would have truly died. If he could, he would have given Roberto a shot at redemption. But he wouldn't do that; he could never trust another person so easily. He slowly opened his eyes and there was no remorse in them, only complete apathy.
He turned around and looked at the mess he had caused, but wasn't revulsed by it even one bit. The next moment, he muttered, "I'm guessing you have a way to deal with all this?"
Natasha emerged from his shadow and stood beside him. She looked at him and incredulously asked, "Where'd you learn to fight like that?" When she saw him fight earlier, she felt like she was watching a true wyvern fight. She had never seen any of her clan members ever fight like that.
David looked at her and flatly replied, "In a dream." With that, he walked out of the bar.
Natasha looked at his departing back in a daze. A few moments later, she took out her phone and dialed the number of the Cleaners, an independent secret organization in the supernatural world.
After the call went through, she solemnly said, "I require cleaning services…. The Mulligan Bar at Hell's Kitchen…. For six rooms." She hung up, then dissipated into shadows.
...
In a two-story house in Queens, Nico had just returned home after a hectic day. He tossed his briefcase on the couch in the living room and headed toward his office on the other side of the hall.
He entered the office and walked toward the chair behind his desk. After sitting down, he switched on the lamp, then took out a bottle of bourbon from the bottom drawer and poured himself a drink.
After he led David to the Buccanti ambush that day, he'd had to deal with the aftermath of it. Even before he had decided on killing David, the consigliere, Marcel, had called up and told him to silence the kid because he was a Buccanti spy.
At the time, Nico couldn't help but scoff at that pathetic excuse. He figured that Marcel was trying to kill David because he wanted to shift the blame for his incompetence during the Buccanti invasion of their turf.
Regardless, with David gone, Nico couldn't be happier.
And the next person he was planning to kill was none other than Marcel! He would lead the fool into another ambush by the Buccanti crew he was now a part of. With Marcel out of the way, he would then find a way to get rid of Angelo, then….
When Nico thought of his plans for the two families, he couldn't help but chuckle maniacally. "When the dust settles, both your families will grovel under my feet. Then I'll create my own family atop your dead bodies."
A cold voice resounded in the office. "Is that so?"
Alarmed, Nico shot to his feet and yelled, "Who's there!?" He took out the pistol from his drawer and pointed it in front of him. Since only the desk lamp had been turned on, half the office was cast in shadow.
Even worse, he hadn't even realized that someone else had been in the same room as him. Fear began creeping into his heart and the hand holding his pistol began trembling. The next moment, he heard footsteps approaching him from the other end of the room.
Soon, he was able to see a silhouette in the dark. The next moment, he was finally able to see the face of the person who had just spoken, albeit only half of the face was visible by the light and the other half shrouded in darkness.
"Hello, boss," David coldly greeted.
It took a while for Nico to identify David, but when he heard the voice, he trembled in utter disbelief. "H-How the hell are you still alive!?" The next moment, his eyes narrowed and he steadied his hands. He pointed the pistol at David's head and decisively pulled the trigger. "DIE!"
CLICK! CLICK! CLICK!
His eyes widened in horror as he looked at his pistol. David saw his former boss panicking and couldn't help but mock, "Don't bother, I already emptied the magazine." He showed the bullets he was holding in his hand.
When Nico saw the bullets in the teenager's hand, he knew that his fate was sealed. It was a fact that he was no match for him in hand-to-hand combat. When he realized that, he couldn't stop himself from vigorously shuddering in fear.
When David saw the dread in the older man's eyes, he coldly chuckled, "What's the matter, boss? Why so serious?"
Nico's mind went on overdrive as he thought about ways in which he could make it out of this situation alive. But he couldn't think of even one solution. When he realized that he wasn't going to live past tonight, he turned maniacal.
He looked into David's eyes and sneered, "You think if you kill me that'll be the end of it?" With that, he began hysterically laughing. "Well, guess fucking what! I was ordered by Marcel to silence you, and who do you think ordered him?"
David's eyes narrowed when he heard that. However, the walking, talking corpse wasn't done talking yet. "Not only Marcel, but even Angelo was in on it. What're you gonna do? Kill the whole fucking family? What a joke!"
Nico figured that, if he had to die, he'd make sure that David followed him as well. His plan was to goad him into waging a war against the family and hoping that he'd die in the process. Even at death's door, his pettiness knew no bounds.
David's eyes flashed with a cold glint. "Everyone involved in my betrayal will die." The next moment, he flicked all the bullets in his hand at Nico one after the other.
Nico's laughter abruptly came to a stop when all the bullets penetrated his face, killing him within moments. With a thud, he fell to the ground, the light in his life slowly fading away. When David saw his bloodied face, he didn't feel happy at all. Instead, he felt tense.
If what Nico had said was the truth, things would become very troublesome for him. He turned to look at his shadow and asked, "Is what he said true?"
Natasha rose from his shadow and solemnly replied, "According to my sources, the consigliere and the underboss of the Rosetti Family were indeed involved."
David looked at her and skeptically asked, "How can you be so sure?"
Natasha faintly smirked. "The supernatural world is full of wonders, Mr. Watson. Anything is possible."
David remained silent after hearing that, as he knew nothing about the supernatural world.
Natasha continued, "I won't stop you from seeking revenge, nor will I interfere in it. I believe this particular battle is solely yours." She looked into David's eyes and added, "That said, what I can do is help you become stronger."
David asked, "How?"
Natasha replied, "By helping you advance to an official Rank 1 Wizard!"
