章節 54: Crossing The Lake Of Bloodbeetles!

In the real world, those sparkling purple energy began to sip back into Evelyn's body through her skin. Her eyes were closed but tears could still be seen flowing down her cheek.

Ben stood up and backed off to give her some space to gather the lightning element into her Lightning Sphere. When she was through calming all three elemental spheres another tear fell.

Someone else would definitely never know what she had just passed through. She was literally halfway through turning the door knob to her death but now she was saved, again.

"Thank you." said Evelyn voicelessly, still, Ben heard it.

Three hours later Evelyn finally woke up from her meditation. She looked anew and fresh. Even the bloody scar on her left shoulder was no more.

"Evelyn!!" Zoe screamed when Evelyn opened her eyes, she ran to her. "We almost lost you." tears were falling down her cheek as she sobbed.

"I'm... I'm here aren't I?" she replied with a heart warmth smile.

"Congratulations Evelyn." both Sye and Cush said. It wouldn't be a lie if they said they still weren't frantic about Evelyn.

"We should rest for now. We still have the lake of Bloodbeetles to worry about." Ben suddenly spoke breaking their reunion. It was after an hour that he said to everyone's hearing. "Guys, I think I have an idea of passing through the lake of Bloodbeetles."

"Really? You have a way to cross the lake, well let's hear it?" everyone was elated add they heard this.

"It's just an idea, I think the Tazzleworm didn't come through the woods but from the lake."

"But no creature can survive one metre into the lake." Sye said in his raspy voice.

"I say this because earlier I didn't hear any abnormalities when I was in the woods to get firewood or when we were on our way here. So the only option is to come through this lake."

"Does that mean it has some kind of repelling magic." Evelyn asked.

"No, not a repelling spell of any sort, I think it has something to do with its body, let me have a look." Ben walked up to the carcass of the creatures, with a dagger he cut off a long finger from its claws. He then proceeded to throw it deep into the lake.

Right after the finger made its way above the lake, a large swarm of Bloodbeetles sprang up. However when the swarm got closer, it was like they immediately lost interest in the finger. The hundreds of man eating beetles didn't even come close to it, allowing the the finger to fall to the ground. Those on ground gave way for it not wanting to come anywhere near it. And just like a repeller, the Bloodbeetles broke their densely gathered self and circles round the claw.

"If it had anything to do with magic, with the creature's dead the body shouldn't retain any more magic after so long." Ben lectured them. They have spent well passed more than six hours.

"They aren't eating it." exclaimed Zoe.

"Then I guess my speculations were correct." Ben smiled knowing he has yet solved another problem himself.

"But there's another problem." Sye said.

"What?" asked Cush.

"Even though we know it can move within the lake, how are we suppose to use this idea?"

""We skin it."" Evelyn and Ben simultaneously said aloud.

"Haha! Then what are we waiting for? Let's get to work." Cush said happily. "This is way better than the plan I came up with." after turning away he said to himself.

He had originally planned for the team to fight their way through the lake. This plan was bound to take at most one or two lives while at it.

The men went to work to begin skinning, they kept its fangs, heart and claws since they could be sold for a very large prize. When the men were done skinning, another problem surfaced. Constructing it in a way to fit even Cush, who has the biggest build, it wasn't enough for everyone. it could only go for two people at most.

"Guys do you know of the riddle on how two teachers both weighing a hundred pounds each and two students who both weigh fifty pounds each cross a lake with a single boat that can only take the weight of one hundred pounds?" Ben thought of an idea.

"..."

"I've never heard of such riddles. Can you saw more about it?" Zoe leaned forward with great interest. Looks like she likes these kind of stuff.

Ben held back a grimince because of Zoe's reaction. "Yeah sure. it's like this, since the two teachers can't take one and leave the other they sent both the students. Once at the other side of the lake, one of the student returns to the other side with the boat..." Ben went on to explain the riddle, he waited for the answer to be digested into their heads.

"So at the end, only two gets to cross over and one back?" Evelyn asked.

"Not entirely, but yes, that's the gist of it." Ben replied. He wasn't expecting them to know such a simple riddle that has never been known in this world.

"How is it that I haven't heard this riddle before? It should be in one of the ancient books or stories, but never heard of it. Hmm?" Zoe was puzzled by the absence of such mind cracking riddle in her memory. Why? maybe because she's the oldest person when speaking of age value. Still, she wouldn't let that bother her... for now. They've gotten a way to cross the lake of man-eating Bloodbeetles!

"Alright, who will go first?" Ben asked the group.

"""...."""

They all turned to look at him like he was some retard. Ben really had no idea what he said wrong. Cush spoke after the pause.

"This is the arrangement; Zoe will go with Sye first..." Cush proceeded to give the formation they'll use to cross the lake of Bloodbettles. The lake was a little over a hundred metres wide, not long, WIDE! "Okay guys, time to go into the Badlands." Cush was excited. Well, he wasn't the only one.

Ben and Zoe were the first ones who used the skin of the Tazzleworm to make Overalls, they also added a few piece as shoes and gloves. This process took more than three hours to prepare. its skin was simply tough.

Evelyn sat down throughout the entire time to revitalize herself and the elements she controls. What Ben said to her had changed her entire view of magic and the world at large.

Going into deeper thoughts of what he said, it now made sense to her. She remembered one senior in her clan who failed to construct a stable elemental sphere of the Fire element, ultimately making him unable to construct even one Entrance-level Fire-type spell model. It was only after he changed elements to the Earth element did he become a successful wizard.

Once the two were done Zoe and Sye went to put it on. The stench reeking from the carcass turned their faces green. However this wasn't what was going to stop them from entering the Badlands.

As they both stepped inside the lake those Bloodbettles made way for them. Everyone could hear each others sigh of relief. Each step was nerve wrecking, they had to walk slowly for the Bloodbettles to make way for them.

It took both of them to reach the other side after nearly an hour, it took Sye twenty minutes to bring it back. Ben went back with him, then brought the second skin back. Ben and Evelyn crossed, then Sye went to back with the second skin to bring Cush along.

They didn't forget to pick up the finger they threw earlier while all along they fearing nothing on their way. They were relieved that were able to cross such a dangerous obstacle without any hiccup, thanks to Ben's idea. Except for Trick though. What a pity, one would say. Greed is indeed the downfall of men.

Finally crossing that deadly lake of man-eating Bloodbeetles, they could now at the city walls of their destination from where they stood. They are almost at the Badlands.

"Listen up everybody," Cush calls as he draws the attention of everyone. "from here onward you have to be extremely careful. This is the most dangerous part, any mishaps can be the last. Heighten your guard."

"Hmm? What's this feeling I'm having?" Ben felt like he was being called out his spirit rather, was being drawn to something... or someone. But what could it possibly be? "I remember I had this feeling just at the other side of the lake, however it wasn't this strong. Like I have butterflies in my stomach, or is it just in my head?" Ben stuffed the useless thoughts to the back of his head.

When Evelyn saw Ben was being absentminded she came up to him. "Hey, what's up with you?" she asks.

"Of, it's nothing, just feeling excited that's all."

The closer they came the more tense they become. And now, they are standing at the city walls entrance. However, the problem is, asides the string baleful aura, the lustrous city they saw from the lake is nothing compared to the empty, broken down walls and tattered roads they currently are seeing.

"A few hundred years under a curse should put such a powerful civilization to such states." Cush spoke with sadness. Only Sye looked at the land with regret and resentment. Ben who had always been wary of him was this.

Feeling someone's gaze on him Sye turned to look at where it came. When he saw that it was Ben he could only crack a smile. Ben on the other hand frowned at this.
