At night, they all had their shifts on who'd be the look out. And in a few hours would be Ben's turn. In his tent Ben say cross-legged in meditation. Right now he was using the special meditation methods Mr Grant gave him to increase his Mindpower, and he has been using it since then. The one he found in his mom's ring was the third stage of the one given to the Chosens'.
"Ben, you're up." said Sye as he informed Ben.
"Okay, thanks." Ben replied. Putting in his spatial ring, he left the tent. He went towards a tall enough tree to perch on. "Geez, these storage pouches are too small, wonder how they fit their things in their?" Ben grumbled. The storage pouch had a space of only one metres square in it. When compared to his ring it's like a small box at the corner. "Lucy, how's your repair going?" Ben suddenly thought of the super computer he almost forgot.
"Well it's progressing little by little. Forty percent of my damaged functions have Ben completely repaired, I still have sixty percent left undone." Lucy's voice was heard only by Ben.
"So what functions are repaired?" Ben was obviously excited even though it sounds like a slow process.
"Hmm, let me see," Ben rolled his eyes hearing the female voice talking as though 'thinking' "besides the one that you've already known, I now have a full set of Military grade battle strategy planning, staging from 570bc onwards. Ben, with this knowledge you can be the greatest General in this world." Lucy explained not forgetting to add some enthusiasm.
Ben was gobsmacked at the information, he unconsciously asked, "Just how many Military grade battle strategy do you have?"
"More than 1,200,000 strategies. I also have other functions ready, but according to this world layout they will not be useful in certain aspects."
"One... one million? *sigh* is there even a need for all these?" Ben asked himself. "Guess I'll have to get done with this mission and get to The Phantom and learn more. Maybe I can learn from Evelyn, Trick's a jerk." Ben kept muttering to himself until he heard an off note. It sounded feminine so Ben stayed back, maybe one of the girls went to do their business, Ben thought.
After a few minutes no business has been done and she doesn't intend on returning. So out of curiosity Ben went to have a look. Blending with the forest, Ben soundlessly and stealthily wove from where he was too the other side of the camp.
"Anything wrong?" Ben asked.
With a yelp the figure spun around, Zoe was really freaked out by the sudden appearance.
"My goddess! How do you do that?" she asked trying to catch her breath.
"Do what?" Ben asked confusedly.
"You didn't make a single sound, and there are so many dried up leaves to have missed them on your way here, so how is it you don't make a sound?"
"Sorry about that. I always do that whenever I'm in the forest." he answered smiling as he scratched the back of his head.
"So it's some kind of skill, right?"
"Yeah, you could say so." Ben shrug it off.
"If it's a skill, do you think you can teach me?" Zoe was as red as a tomato. It was definitely a great deal to be straight forward to ask someone to teach her one of his skill. It might be a family secret at the very least.
"Really? I always thought the elves were the rulers of the forest." Ben said mockingly.
"So what if we're rulers of the forest, can we not learn more things? humph!" her shy expression became that of anger because of Ben's words. Stamping her feet she went back to her tent.
"What did I say wrong this time?"Ben could only stand there awkwardly. "Not another girl drama." Ben sighed and went back to his tree.
Ben's shift was over so he decided to call on the next person to stand guard. Unfortunately for him the next in line is none other than Zoe whom he had just unknowingly offended. He walked up to her tent intending to call to her, he even intentionally made a few noise so not to startle her again.
"Zoe are you up?" standing there for a while not knowing what to say, he finally said something. He didn't immediately get a reply instead he heard rustling, this showed she must have awoken. "Well, I guess it's your turn then." without another word he left.
Feeling that he must have left, she went out to keep her watch.
Zoe tried different postures trying to walk soundlessly like Ben,but she still seems to fail. It is rumored that the elves are the most dangerous existence in the forest. This is true to some extent. It is nearly impossible to defend yourself against the elves as they always stay silent once in the woods. And even when running in the woods while hunting, little noises may arise you wouldn't be able to react on time before an arrow goes through you.
In Ben's case it's different, Zoe wouldn't be afraid to say Ben can be considered the best when comparing him to other elves when in the woods. She wouldn't say it out loud.
Crouch...
"Urgh, how am I getting it wrong?"Zoe was frustrated thinking why she, an elf could not be silent like the petty human in the woods, 'The elves pride' she kept muttering to herself.
"Many of your body parts aren't placed well," a youthful voice spoke from within the woods. Zoe covered her mouth with her hands to stop her from screaming. "look, I'm sorry for what I said earlier if that hurt you." Ben was saying as he soundlessly walked out of the woods and appeared before Zoe. "I could show you if you want me to." he said in a very calm voice and a friendly smile.
Seeing his smile and hearing his calm voice it completely calmed the rolling wave that would have burst out any second. Taking a few deep breaths to get her emotions in check she spoke, "I would like to see how your skill is better than that of the elves." puffing her chest and pulling on a prideful look. Looking at her doing such a thing made him not to know whether to laugh or cry.
"Yeah, whatever, first you need to loose your muscles. You move like a wooden puppet compared to me if I must say." he gave a light chuckle then walked up to her.
"What are you doing?" Zoe said when she saw Ben walking to get back.
"Hmm, now you mention it, what do you think a single man and beautiful lady in the middle of the forest do at this hour late at night?" he said folding his arm across his chest.
Zoe was completely red, even though she must be older than him she couldn't help imagine otherwise. Being older means she also has a strong mentality.
"That would only be in your dreams."
"hehe, don't worry, I don't think anything will happen," he said going behind her "yet." this made her even tense up. "Zoe, just loosen up okay, or we could do this tomorrow if you don't feel okay about it tonight... ugh, I think that came out wrong." listening to his words even when they meant something else Zoe couldn't stay anymore as she ran away like a stalker rabbit. "Great, now I have more hours to fill. Stupid mouth."
...
In the middle of practically nowhere a group of people had been on the road for thirteen days straight, RFD group only stopped for short rest and food. This group is precisely Ben's group.
"Everyone we will be having our rest after choosing the next mountain." after being told about the terrain by Zoe who held the map Cush announced to the group.
The group fought a lot demon creatures on their way. Evelyn and Trick had to join in when they bumped into a pack of One Eyed Wolves. At that time Ben was able to see the true prowess of wizard. It took Trick three fireballs to kill the entire pack after preparing while the others stalled for time.
The deeper they went towards their destination the more dangerous creatures pop up. This continued from time to time, they once had to flee because a powerful early Warrior-level demon creature tried to ambush them.
Over the course of their time together with a few chit chat everyone got to know each other more. However, two people hadn't been interacting much.
"Ben?" Cush called.
"What's up?" Ben answered.
"What is up with you and Zoe?"
"How do you mean?" asked Ben.
"You keep it all cool and all, but the same doesn't go for Zoe. She doesn't seem like herself recently."
"But I don't know what would be wrong with her." Ben replied while scratching his head.
"Whatever dude, try talking to her, would ya?" requested Cush.
"Cush why do you need me to do that? Aren't Trick and Zoe like pals? Why am I the one to talk to her?" Ben gave out one question after the other.
"That's an order." Cush said sternly.
Ben's eyes widened at the mention of 'order'. Was he serious about that as an order? Ben asked inwardly. Looking into Cush's eyes he knew he wasn't joking.
"Sure, I'll try." Ben halfheartedly assured. A while later Ben came to Zoe where she sat on a log of wood. "Hey, Zoe, what's up?" he asked.
"The sky." Zoe answers.
"Didn't know you... never mind. You know, I have little knowledge about archery, not as good as yours though. Wanna see?"
"Uhm, okay I guess?" she says to look up to Ben for the first time.
"Do you mind helping me with your bow? I don't have one."
Zoe squinted her eyes before handing him her long bow. Ben took the bow and knotted the arrow given to him then he randomly pulled the string facing any direction. When they ask saw this they all went on alert.
"WHOA! WHOA! BEN! are you nuts?! Take that somewhere else. You could hurt someone I or worse kill 'em!" Cush was yelling and waving his hands about.
"And this is what you bring to our team Cush! He's a walking disaster." Trick didn't let the chance to humiliate Ben pass by.
