71% The Cold Flames / Chapter 120: Advanced-level Blacksmith Exam 2

章節 120: Advanced-level Blacksmith Exam 2

Meanwhile, inside the smithy where Ben will be working for the next few hours, he divided the ores equally into two portions. It was true and he knew that his choice of ores were weird, to say the least, but unlike the typical broad sword made in the style of an Elemental Swordsman he will be making a repier.

He began by melting the Magma ore and Oppo ore together. When they became molten and mixed thoroughly Ben threw in the Ice inland ire. Like the name implies it cooled down the molten rocks after which he used a spatular to mixed it in the process of cooling. It no longer was molten but had cooled to becoming a mold

He kept the mold aside. Picking up a few of the Platinum ore, he threw them into the heat and allowed to heat up instead of just melting it to become molten. With the help of Lucy he could use her heat ray vision to see how well the ore was being heated. With his precision he was able to evenly heat every part of the Platinum ore. He took the heated ore out and began hammering. He was using the Platinum ore to form the guard, cover and cross guard. Because of the intricate designs being used it took him a little over two hours to be done.

Once he was done he set the guard aside rather than cooling with water. The Blacksmiths in the secrete room didn't know why though, so they kept on watching.

Ben took out more Platinum ore and heated it up evenly. Once done he took the heated Platinum ore and mold to the anvil. He used a 20 pound hammer and hammered continuously.

He first started with the mold. After elongating the mold to have the shape of a one finger wide rod. Afterwards he began hammering the heated Platinum ore over the rod from the tip downwards. He made the Platinum ore to be one inch longer than the rod. This way with the nature of the repier it could stab without becoming blunt in three or four strikes.

It was only when the shaped rod reached the 10th skill did he stop and take it back to the furnace to maintain low heat so not cool off. The Blacksmiths in the secrete room were again confused when they saw someone 'grilling' metal. 'Why not just leave it aside like you did the guard? Its not like it would completely cool off in the next thirty minutes, maybe even in the next one hour.' This was the thoughts of these experience veterans, yet it seemed to them that they were beginning to learn a whole new way of crafting.

Cora tried to understand the meaning of grilling the rod. A gasp of shock escaped her mouth when realization downed on her. With her keen eyesight as a Blacksmith and the only one being closest to becoming a Master blacksmith, she could see the bronze-like colour of the outer Platinum ore lighten to a silvery-gold hue. Platinum ore was almost bronze in colour while Ice inland ire and Oppo ore is silver, however, Magma ore was all about heat.

Therefore, the Magma ore was used by Ben to melt the Oppo ore and the Ice inland ire together from the inside-out. While the outer Platinum ore will be heated through from both within and out with the outer heat coming from the furnace, it was mixing the four different metals together into one. Truly brilliant.

"Cora, what is the matter? Have you caught him cheating perhaps?" Tim watched as Cora was totally distracted because he and everyone else could see her usually composed self crumble. Her eyes bulged in utter shock like the one before her had just killed her dog. Even her mouth was wide agape.

"Where did you say you found this genius?" Cora asked Hoover who was still looking at her confused. Didn't he say already?

"Down stairs." Hoover answered. "What is the matter?"

"I am not sure myself, we'll have to wait and see the final result." She didn't want to say what she could back, so they decided to see the end result.

Ben left the long piece of metal to heat up above the furnace and went over to pick up the guard. He did not place the guard in water to instantly cool off but had left it on the table. With careful precision Ben elegantly designed the guard, chiseling out and bringing in various designs and art on the surface.

It was an angel wing with a sword driving through its center straight down. It looked like the sword was the spine of the angel wings. This was going to be his symbol.

Another hour for chiseling and making of the hilt was quickly gone in a blink of an eye. He dropped that aside and went back to the long slender piece of metal. Ben used a tongue and picked it from above the furnace and placed it on the anvil and hammered. When it reached the 30th base skill he went ahead to heat the last ore, the Silink fil. This is what brings out a shinier glitter of gold.

The Silink fil is mainly used when making weapons or armoury that are placed on display or high class noble warriors that decide to bring their riches to the battlefield. Even though the Silink fil cannot be compared to an ore like the Magma mithril it is still in fact an extremely strong ore when compared to the four ores Ben used.

Before, the judges were disgusted when Ben chose four useless ores, but now, with the way things are going, the Silink fil will further strengthen the weak-looking sword. Besides a repier was made not to clash head on with big swords like a Broadsword or Long sword but was made for its light weight and thrusting prowess.

"The young man have made his own metal... Well, even though it isn't his, but still he just made a graded piece of metal which is very close to be classified as an Advanced-level ore. If this method of crafting have publicized we could have reduced the cost of having adventurers die trying to gather high grade ores." Cora couldn't hold her excitement anymore and blurted out.

"Di... Did he he turn scrap into wonder?" asked Asmilia, not believing her eyes. In fact she wasn't the only one, everyone of them in the secrete room had their mouths open in shock. They were finding it hard to believe that scrap can be turned into an actual sword.

"All my years I have never seen such intelligence." Crispin couldn't hold even an atom of his previous anger and said.

The thing is such a method of crafting had ever existed but was lost. Some craft of the old times could be seen but they are highly guarded treasures and could only be counted on one hand. In the time of ancient where smithing can be compared to alchemy a bunch of Basic ores were used to make Intermediate and Advanced-level swords and Intermediate and Advanced-level ores will be used to make magic swords that can wield the power of the element and vanquish evil.

"How can he be such a talented blacksmith and still be a genius Spellcaster. It is just too absurd." Tim exclaimed as even he couldn't be anymore surprised.

"Take a look at that design of his on the guard. His every move is just too... good if would say." Said Caspian the elf.

"Just too good? Is your pride really so big that it covers your face and makes you blind?!?! He isn't 'just too good' he is simply flawless!" Hoover glared at Caspian and then the others. They lowered their heads in shame as what he said was true. As much as they wanted to praise Ben, their pride wouldn't let them.

"Who do you think is his master?" Asked Cora.

"Hmm?" They all turned to her in daze.

"He must have a monster of a master to be this good in smithing, don't you think."

"This is certain, the very least." Caspian chuckled to lighten the atmosphere. "So what do you guys think?"

"You're right, I believe he has shown his worth. What do you say, Crispin?" Hoover stroked his beard and asked his colleague.

"I agree too. The way he is able to strike accurately is quite fantabulous." Agreed Crispin.

"Me too, his designing skills is in match with we elves. Don't you say so, Asmilia?" Caspian butted.

"I wouldn't say match, but he is better than a novice." Asmilia agreed.

"He would do just fine as a jeweler if you ask me." Cora immediately began hugging Ben to herself.

"Hohoho, I don't think so, Cora. With his adept precision in carving, he is most suitable for Carving, and I might be able to train him further under my guidance." Tim who had been quiet all along was even more straightforward.

"What are you doing?!" Hover barked. "Have you suddenly forgotten that he is here to register as an Advanced-level Blacksmith? What is this about keeping him under your wing? Have you all asked for permission for that first? You all should be ashamed of yourselves. Do any of you think that a young Unspoken can be easily fooled by the likes of you?" Hoover shouted angrily. Thankfully the room is soundproof.

Now everyone wanted Ben to be under their wing. They we're arguing between themselves who would get Ben. At the other side of the wall Ben started to put the sword together and then taking it to the sharpening stone. He was contemplating if he should sharpen the sword now or wait till after he has made the second sword then sharpen them altogether.

At the end he chose to sharpen the two swords at the end. He went back to continue hammering. He was almost done with the second sword but stopped when someone opened the door to the room. Turning to see who it was, he was surprised to see the dwarf that brought him to take this exam, he stood by the door in all smiles... at least that's what Ben thought.
